Invoicing Changes for the 2025 ALOA/AOA Dues

Upon receiving your 2025 dues invoice December, you may notice a change to the remittance of your dues payment. We are excited to announce that the Alabama Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association (AOA) have joined efforts in the invoicing and collection of membership dues. We are hopeful that this collaboration will streamline the process and allow staff more time to focus on the key matters and programs that are most important to your continued success as a member!

Please know that the Alabama Optometric Association is still pleased to serve in all capacities for our members and will be available to answer any questions concerning your dues payments. With this change, AOA will take a more active role in the billing and collection of membership dues. We appreciate your patience as we make this transition.

With this transition in dues payments for 2025, please note the following:

  • The monthly draft option for credit cards will continue, but the AOA does not have the ability to do monthly bank drafts. If you are currently on a monthly bank draft, we will be contacting you to change your dues payment option.  (Monthly drafts for ALOPAC are not affected by these changes. The ALOA will continue to collect ALOPAC funds)
  • Payments for dues via check will now be made payable to the American Optometric Association.
  • You may note a new remittance address:      American Optometric Association

                                                                                    Attn: Dues Accounting

                                                                                    243 N Lindbergh Blvd

                                                                                    St. Louis, MO 63141

  • For payments via credit card, you will need to submit your credit card information to the AOA directly using the remittance section of your 2025 invoice when received.   This helps to ensure your current card information remains secure. If you are on a monthly credit card draft, you can go to the My Profile section on the ALOA website and update your credit card.

Also, with this transition, your first point of contact regarding your dues will be with the AOA. The AOA staff have full access to your membership records and are well equipped to answer any questions you may have. We will be working closely with the AOA and will always remain available for our members.

We are working hard to make sure this transition is as seamless as possible for our members. Detailed information and instructions will be included as a reminder with your 2025 invoice.

Book by Dr. John Classe

UAB Optometry Emeritus Professor Dr. John Classé has recently written a book titled "Double Vision," which is about the "eye war" with ophthalmology. It is a personal memoir that includes many interesting, amusing, and historical details. Since it is a personal story, the book focuses on legislative efforts in Alabama and also features the UAB School of Optometry and its program, uniquely described by one who has gone through it. There is also discussion of the legal issues faced by optometry, particularly the faux liability claims made by political opponents, and, most importantly, a summary of the definitive findings of the National Practitioner Data Base, which show that optometry's liability record is by far the best of the major health professions.

The softbound 214 page book is for sale on amazon books for $14.99. There is also a Kindle copy available for $9.99. To make a purchase, go to amazon books and type in "John Classe Double Vision". There is also a specific address for the book that can be used: https://a.co/d/5ubwyBd
