Laderoute to captain Bulldogs

The University of Minnesota Duluth men's hockey team has named 5th-year senior Tanner Laderoute as the club's captain for the 2022-23 season, the team announced on Tuesday afternoon.

The club also named senior forwards Quinn Olson and Luke Loheit as assistant captains for the upcoming season.
Laderoute, a native of Edmonton, AB, served as an assistant captain for the Bulldogs during the 2021-22 campaign. This past season, Laderoute skated in 38 games for UMD, while posting a career-high ten goals to go with three assists for 13 points.

Laderoute took home both NCHC Academic All-Conference and NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete honors for the fourth straight season.
After rolling off a four-goal weekend at No. 10 Western Michigan, Laderoute was named the NCHC's Forward of the Week on November 8, 2021.

Additionally, Laderoute was named a finalist for the NCHC's Defensive Forward of the Year award.

Olson will wear a letter for the first time in his Bulldog career. During the 2021-22 season, Olson rolled off career-highs in assists (19) points (25) and games played (42). He finishes the year tied for first on the team in assists, while also chipping in a +6 rating. Additionally, Olson scored two game-winning goals on the year, including one during UMD's 4-2 victory at No. 15 Bemidji State in game one of the season.
Like Olson, Loheit will also serve as a team captain for the first time during his time in Duluth. During the past season, the Minnetonka, Minn. native dressed in 34 games, while tallying two goals and four assists for six points. Loheit carved out a nice penalty-killing/depth role on UMD's fourth line during the team's run to an NCHC Championship last season.

Loheit also earned both NCHC Academic All-Conference and NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete honors for the third straight season.

Lake Superior College to partner with Ascent Aviation

Lake Superior College is partnering with Ascent Aviation to continue to offer the professional pilot program at LSC’s Center for Advanced Aviation.

Ascent Aviation, a subsidiary of Lake Superior Helicopters, has been chosen by Lake Superior College after a comprehensive Request for Proposal (RFP) process. Pending approval of the Minnesota State Board of Trustees at the June meeting, the new agreement will begin this summer.

By Fall Semester of 2022, the partnership is planned to have all of the current offerings and benefits of the program including the FAA approved 141 flight training and approval of the reduced hours ATP for our graduates in partnership with our commercial vendor. This new partnership will provide a tighter connection with the aviation business community and allow for new opportunities in career pathways for the graduates of the flight program.
“We have enjoyed a strong and successful partnership with Lake Superior Helicopters over the past several years, primarily on the helicopter pilot training side,” said Daniel Fanning (pictured), Vice President of Advancement and External Relations at Lake Superior College. “Under this new agreement, we will further expand our partnership to include the entire pilot program – both helicopter and airplane tracks. Ascent Aviation has demonstrated an impressive vision and commitment to serving our students, and we believe this move will make the program even more accessible, successful and sustainable for years to come. We want Lake Superior College to be the premier pilot training program in the region and are confident that Ascent Aviation is the partner who can help make that happen.”
“We are excited for the opportunities this new partnership brings to the program, and students, and are looking forward to seeing all our aspiring aviators this fall and for years to come,” said Ascent Aviation CEO Eric Monson. “We are thrilled to continue to grow our partnership with Lake Superior college and truly believe the sky is the limit.”

Once the contract is approved by the Minnesota Board of Trustees, Lake Superior College and Ascent Aviation will release additional and finalized details. The goal is to have those details in place prior to the Duluth Airshow on July 16 and 17.
Lake Superior College and Ascent Aviation will be tabling at the Duluth Air Show in LSC’s Center for Advanced Aviation, Hangar 103, 4960 Airport Road. Until then, any prospective student interested in the professional pilot program is encouraged to contact Lake Superior College, [email protected], and/or set up a tour of LSC’s aviation campus at www.lsc.edu/visit. -- Lake Superior College
