city manager's report masthead 2022
Dunwoody, Georgia: September 2022
I’m really proud of a new program in the Dunwoody Police Department, and I want to make sure you’re aware of it. Back in May, City Council unanimously approved a contract with View Point Health to create a Police-Mental Health Collaboration (PMHC) co-responder program. This program provides our police officers with the support of an on-site behavioral health clinician to help with calls and provide follow-up on cases involving someone who might be struggling with a mental health issue.
Meagan Wynn joined our team in July. She has a bachelor’s degree in social work from Savannah State University and a master’s in social work from Valdosta State University. She’s been active in social work since 2017. In addition to mental health issues, she can help with substance abuse calls and homelessness. We’re grateful for her expertise.
American Rescue Plan funding will pay for PMHC for the first three years. which includes additional emergency response after-hours, when needed.
Ms. Wynn isn’t the only new addition to the Dunwoody Police Department. Last month, five new officers were sworn in (L-R in photo with Mayor Deutsch and Chief Grogan: Officers David Stone, Ernesto Green, Brandon Everett, Taylor Mossman, Terrance Alexander). Two more DPD recruits will be sworn in next week, and a third recruit is set to graduate from the Police Academy soon.

It’s no secret that hiring is a challenge for law enforcement agencies across the country. Chief Grogan and his department have worked hard to stay competitive, and we support them in those efforts. In July, City Council unanimously approved a 6% pay raise for all police officers, detectives, sergeants, and lieutenants. These increases were on top of the city-wide adjustments of 3% at the start of 2022.

In addition, the police department offers a strong package of benefits, including the following:
  • Take-home vehicle program
  • 100% city-paid employee medical coverage immediately
  • 90% city-paid family medical coverage immediately
  • Employer retirement contribution up to 21.2%
  • $6,000 signing bonus
  • Up to $4,000 tuition assistance annually
  • $800 monthly housing stipend for officers who live in Dunwoody

If you know of someone who might be interested, please share these details. Dunwoody is a great place to work. Police have been a priority since this City was founded, and I appreciate the community’s support.
Looking ahead

There are still spots open for the City’s second household hazardous waste recycling event of 2022. It’s on Saturday, September 10 from 9 to 1 p.m. at Dunwoody City Hall. During the first event in April, residents recycled 16,930 gallons of latex paint, 6,685 gallons of oil-based paint, 3,243 gallons of pesticides, 1,065 gallons of flammable liquids, and 1,229 gallons of motor oil. Thank you for helping us keep this waste out of landfills. Click here to register for the September event.

Our next electronics recycling event is Sunday, October 2 from 1 to 4 p.m. at St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church. You can find more details and registration information using this link.
