DCCA Meetings and More!
More than 50 members of the DCCA community gathered on December 4th to learn about the important issues of food insecurity. Nearly one third of DC residents experience hunger. We heard from the leaders of three organizations working in our neighborhood:

  • George Jones, Bread for the City, described their holistic approach to addressing poverty, with food insecurity a central concern.
  • Peter Sage, Food for All DC, oversees a volunteer corps that packs and delivers food bags to families in need in NW. They also partner with other organizations providing food.
  • Kate Urbank, Food Rescue US-DC works with volunteers to address food waste and get it to people who need it.

We collected canned food and boxed goods which will be shared with these groups. All three organizations can use your support. Please consider volunteering or including them in your year-end donations.

The program opened with a rousing performance by The Tuesday Brass, an amateur brass quintet, with Tom Beckman and Steve Bauer on trumpets, Julie Leyh on French horn, DCCA board member Patty Zweibel on trombone, and Jarrett Perlow on tuba.

We Did It! DCCA Team Funds and Fixes Fence
volunteer

The fence around Freedom Garden was damaged by a crash in December 2021. Now, thanks to the work of intrepid DCCA 2nd Vice President and Parks and Gardens Committee co-Chair, Marcy Logan, it is repaired. And thanks to the Masons for donating the fencing left over from construction.

In the past year, DCCA has invested almost $4,000 in permanent improvements to our parks and gardens, including the fence repair for Freedom Garden and an irrigation system for the T Street Park. When you renew your membership or join DCCA, please consider increasing your membership level or adding an extra contribution to help defray these costs.
Not yet a DCCA member? New memberships start at just $15.

DCCA Member Spotlights
It was recently announced that DCCA Member Nicolas Shi was selected as the official artist for next year's National Cherry Blossom Festival. We are so proud to have a neighbor with such vibrant talent in our community. Thanks to Nicolas for his continued support of DCCA and his contribution to the District. Be sure to congratulate him at a future event!

You may remember our online house tour collaboration with DCCA Member Marc Langston (aka History Hat). His love of local history is taking an new art form with an original audio drama, Dupont Investigations, The Washingtonian recently ranked it the top podcast to listen to on holiday travels. Marc and his co-creator, Bryce Bowyn are DC Arts and Humanities Fellows - and we are thrilled to dive into their story investigating a spooky death in 1936 DC.
Walking Tour of Women's Organizations in Dupont Circle
During your holiday strolls, check out this self guided tour, a project of the Womens National Democratic Club's Educational Foundation, to view historic buildings and learn about the history of diverse women's organizations with headquarters in Dupont.

DCCA has made a grant to the WNDC Educational Foundation for future displays and events related to this tour.
Keegan Theatre's An Irish Carol
Keegan's holiday show is opened and running until December 31st.

An original work by Keegan favorite Matthew J. Keenan, AN IRISH CAROL is an homage to Dickens’ classic – ta comic and touching play, set in a modern Dublin pub, follows one evening in the life of a wealthy pub owner who has lost touch with his own humanity in the interest of self-protection and material success.
