Downtown Pedestrian Safety Survey
The DowntownDC BID is conducting a Pedestrian Safety and Experience Study and would like to get residents input. The study will result in implementing three “quick-win” pilot projects downtown designed to improve the walkability of the neighborhood while also demonstrating the potential of a more walkable downtown D.C.

Reuse DC Website Launch
The DOEE has launched a first-of-its-kind website to help District residents get centralized information on how to repair, donate, and shop second-hand items ranging from furniture, clothing and other household items.

The site offers a way to search an online directory, explore how to exchange items with your neighbors, learn about the importance of food recovery, and more!

New Years Eve Forest Bath Meditation

The National Arboretum
9:00 AM, 12:00 PM, and 2:30 PM

Join our nature and forest therapy guide in this two-hour program that encourages you to slow down and take in the National Arboretum through all your senses. Forest bathing, or shinrin yoku, is the simple practice of taking in the woods through the senses for health benefits. The Japanese have enjoyed shinrin yoku for decades as a regular public health initiative.

The Smithsonian in our backyard means that there is always something new to discover in our hometown. The museums are open seven days a week from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM except on Christmas Day. Utility Scammer Alert
The Office of the People’s Counsel for the District of Columbia has received reports of utility scammers contacting consumers via telephone and text messages warning that their “Pepco” service will be disconnected within the hour if electronic payment is not made right away. The scammers are using the actual Pepco telephone number to make themselves appear legitimate. 

OPC informs that Pepco will never call you to take a payment over the telephone. Pepco will send notices to you by mail if your bill is delinquent.
Print Guidelines on Flood Adaptation for Historic Buildings
For those interested in preservation - The National Park Service has made available guidelines that provide information about how to adapt historic buildings to be more resilient to flooding risk in a manner that will preserve their historic character and that will meet The Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation.
