Loaf

Located in the heart of downtown Durham, NC, Loaf focuses on hearth baked sourdough breads and pastries. What started out of a backyard brick oven, as a hobby to share with friends and neighbors, very quickly grew to a stall at the Downtown Durham Farmers Market, and settled as a brick and mortar shop in 2011. Throughout the years Loaf has expanded it's offerings, and partnered with local growers, and makers to provide you with as many seasonal treats from right here in the NC Triangle.

Red Drum Roaster

Red Drum Roasters is a Durham-based coffee roaster focusing on small-batch, single-origin roasts. We currently source our beans from De La Finca and Coffee Shrub, two importers who do an excellent job promoting and developing direct relationships with farmers and coops that benefit farmers and co-ops. Come to our stand for hot coffee, cold brew, and bags of beans.

Honeygirl Meadery

Honeygirl Meadery is an award-winning urban meadery in the heart of downtown Durham NC specializing in small batch seasonal meads. We ferment honey and local fruits, flowers and herbs to create delicious, nuanced, food-friendly mead. Every week we bring out a mix of our hand-crafted mead styles, so there is something for everyone!

This week we will bring our most popular meads of the season. It’s Strawberry Mead! We’re bringing this classic original Honeygirl mead to ring in your Dry January!!  Don’t forget Hopped Mango sparkling mead! Currant Mead is back too! Orange Blossom Mead, and Hibiscus Lemonthyme Mead along with a few others. We’ve got your DRY January covered with these dry and semi dry meads. Don’t worry, there’s some semi sweet meads in the line up too 😊

We are happy to make recommendations for you in person at the market. You can also pre-order online from our entire line-up, and we will bring your pre-order to the Market for you. PLEASE NOTE: Pre-orders for DFM pickup must be placed by 6:00pm on the Friday before the Market. Simply select Durham Farmers Market as your pickup location when you place your order.

Hurtgen Meadows

For our first market of 2023 we will have napa, red and green cabbage, sweet potatoes, watermelon radishes, squash, garlic, jams and cutting boards.

SPECIAL REQUEST: As always, we are happy to have any 8 ounce glass jam jars and metal rings you have been collecting as we can reuse them. Thank you!

Family and Future

Family and Future makes wholesome treats you can feel good about bringing home to your loved ones. All of our chocolate bars, nut butters and fudges are organic, dairy free, sweetened without cane sugar, and made completely from scratch. Steven Lambeth started this business so he could still eat sweets while on a restricted diet and has since grown with a vision of both supporting starting a family with his wife and wanting to align with a more sustainable future. We only use fair-trade cacao to support more ethical food systems and, when possible, use compostable or reusable packaging to help minimize waste.

Chapel Hill Creamery

Grab your jacket and come to the market. Now is the time to enjoy your favorite cold weather comfort food with our meat and cheese. Make Chili with our ground beef, a roasted pork butt, a grilled cheese sandwich with Hickory Grove to go with soup.

Whey Fed Pork: We have Pork Chops, Spare Ribs, Butt Roasts, Bacon, ground pork, sausage, and Ham hocks. Our sausage is delicious; we add the hams and we’ve chosen the spices that we think you’ll like for dinner and breakfast, from Chorizo to Mild breakfast with sage, to Mild Italian.

Farmhouse Cheese: Thunder Mt. Swiss, creamy Carolina Moon, Calvander, and Hickory Grove are available this week. We will not have our Farmers cheese and probably no other fresh cheeses this week as we’re waiting for a part for the boiler connected to the cheese vat. Use our aged cheeses for frittatas, potato gratin, and pasta dishes. Our cheeses have distinctive flavors and textures; two or three make an interesting cheese board.

Pastured Beef: We also have chuck roasts, eye of round, beef stew, soup bones, and steaks. Jersey beef is flavorful and tender, and our herd is Animal Welfare Approved.

Botanist & Barrel

2023 here we come! Celebrate in style with locally produced natural cider and wine. We'll bring a selection of our favorites from 2022, including our DeFi Traminette Pet Nat Wine with notes of Stone fruit, white flower, apricot, honeysuckle. Fermented with native yeast. Disgorged by hand. An absolutely perfect bubbly bottle for any celebration! Cheers

Piedmont Microgreens

Piedmont Microgreens is an indoor farm located just four miles from the farmer's market! We specialize in microgreens, which are the youngest stage of vegetable crops. Microgreens are great because they're beautiful, tasty, and packed with nutrients. We will be bringing the following microgreens to the market: sunflower shoots, pea shoots, nutrition mix, salad mix, a farmer's choice, and a few specialty varieties, like cilantro, dill, and onion! The nutrition mix is a blend of broccoli, cabbage, and kohlrabi microgreens, while the salad mix is a blend of sunflower shoots, buckwheat, and kale microgreens. The farmer's choice will be a revolving blend of what inspires us each week.

Sarah's House of Clay and Quilts!

Happy Little Pots that Hold Happy Secrets

The 3-year old boy placed his hands on my thigh and leaned way in nose to nose with the lump of clay spinning on my wheel. So begins the story of my Happy Little Pots that Hold Happy Secrets. Coming soon more Happy Pots and more stories.

QUILTS - Great lap quilts, baby quilts, wall hangings. Each quilt is unique combination of my original fabric designs. Spoonflower prints the quilt tops for me. I quilt them. 100% cotton fiber and batting.

POTTERY CAMPS -

I’ve shared my studio with children for the past 27 years, offering teacher workday and school holiday camps as well as week-long summer camps. I believe I have four more years of camp energy in me.

Let me know when your child would like to spend the day in the studio with me. I’d love to share my enthusiasm for mud!

POTTERY LESSONS for ADULTS

I offer lessons for 1-4 students at a time, scheduled by appointment. Treat yourself to a little fun with mud. I’ll get you started for success on the wheel. I’ll help get you to the next level of throwing. Or just come to discover if wheel throwing is your thing.

The photo above shows what one teen accomplished in just her second lesson. Come see what you can do - if not the perfect pot, perhaps the grin from ear to ear!

I am so grateful to all my pottery patrons!

We are still in recovery mode at the farm after the BIG Christmas freeze. Mario is carefully tending the green tender vegetables inside the greenhouse... fennel, swiss chard, kale, and lettuce. The outside brussel sprouts are slow to recover .. but they are coming. Hopefully, they will be ready to harvest in several weeks.

PECANS... Mario and I were able to pick up the first batch of the farm's shelled pecans from the sheller down east.. and they are so delicious. We will have them in lb. packages (freezer bags) this Saturday.. ready for you to freeze or use now.

BABIES (animal babies) continue to be born. The kids and lambs are arriving everyday and Mario carefully herds the mother and newborns into the corral/barn areas every evening... to protect from the cold, wet weather and predators. Thank goodness for the milder weather this week.

We are very proud that our farm's cattle have recently been 'Certified Global Animal Partner' (GAP Stage #4) and Animal Welfare Certified... with a national certification which included intensive inspections and audits. Also, all calves are easily tracked with electronic tagging.. from birth to harvest.  A genetic profile of the cattle herd was completed by the American Angus Association with our stocker calves ranking high for carcass traits... potentially grading a Choice or Prime carcass. I am thankful my father and grandfather were visionaries in selecting the best beef cattle out there... starting in 1911!  Now, I just need to keep the farm growing and producing outstanding Angus BEEF for you, our valued customers.

We look forward to seeing you on Saturday.

About Ninth Street Bakery: Determined to change the bread landscape, Ninth Street Bakery was founded by two brothers in 1981 fresh from a stint baking at the Tassajara Zen Center with monk Ed Espe Brown. They brought with them recipes for wholegrain goodness and a mind for doing good works in Durham. Known by many for its seeded sliced pan loaves, NSB now has crusty artisan bread products that burst with the flavors of natural levain, and flaky pastries that slow rise to perfection. We have a full service café, as well as a robust wholesale program that covers the Triad from Greensboro to Raleigh, Durham to Chapel Hill and Carrboro.
