What is man that he may know number, and what is number that he may know of it? We could ask this question of the lowly honey bees because they embrace a great many large numbers. First of all, a strong hive may contain 60,000 adult bees. They are organized into specialized work parties by age, live only six weeks, working themselves to death in their last two weeks of life.
They beat their remarkable wings about 220 times per second and can rotate (feather) allowing them to hover. They fly at about 15 mph, faster than most humans unless we consider Usain Bolt at 27 mph, but bees can persist for up to six miles (actually may need to stop for an occasional rest).
Dr Eva Crane researched the energetics of flight and determined that they could achieve about 30 million miles per gallon of honey. In one study, researchers determined that if a single bee were responsible for producing a pound of honey, it might have to visit 200,000 clover florets and fly seven times around the world. And they can count to five.

Farmhouse Cheese: How do you like to use our Ricotta? Make a cheesecake or just spread it on your morning toast or make lasagna with eggplant and mushrooms from the market. We also have fresh and tangy Dairyland Farmers’ Cheese, YoYo, Thunder Mt. Swiss aged 7 1/5 months, Hickory Grove, Calvander, Carolina Moon, a few New Moon, and maybe a few Paneer and Danziger. Use our Farmers cheese like mozzarella- either fresh or melted. It's good with tomato and cucumber salads, and it melts very smoothly for Mexican burritos or Chile Rellenos, Thunder Mt. Swiss is full of nutty, slightly sweet flavors with a smooth texture; it makes a delicious ham and cheese sandwich or appetizer with new crop apples.
Pastured Beef: GROUND BEEF IS BACK. We are selling it on special at 2 packs for $13.00. Our customers love it once they give it a try. We have some other cuts including Chuck Roast, so check our sign.

I’m reaching into stock piles of rarely seen pieces while I figure out kiln repair…
I loaded my glaze kiln two weeks ago, in hopes of bringing new pots two Saturdays ago. Oh, woe is me! My kiln would not stay lit. Is it the thermocouple? The solenoid? I can’t budge the bolts to find out. So the kiln sits, loaded, waiting for repair.
Fortunately, I have lots of pots in stock. I’ll bring a colorful variety of functional pottery to market. Sparkle your life with unique wares.

Planting fall and winter crops are in full swing now with farm helper, Salvador. Mario has returned home to his mountainous village in Mexico to spend time with his family... a much needed vacation. Also, our Italian "foodie" friend, Francesco, has returned to Italy to continue teaching agriculture to his students. He is going to also be missed ... until next winter. Mario is pictured in his field of organic POPCORN. He should have lots later this fall and winter... a perfect holiday gift. We hope and pray for rain daily... It is so dry on the farm.

About Ninth Street Bakery: Determined to change the bread landscape, Ninth Street Bakery was founded by two brothers in 1981 fresh from a stint baking at the Tassajara Zen Center with monk Ed Espe Brown. Piedmont Microgreens is an indoor farm located just four miles from the farmer's market! We specialize in microgreens, which are the youngest stage of vegetable crops. Microgreens are great because they're beautiful, tasty, and packed with nutrients. We will be bringing the following microgreens to the market: sunflower shoots, pea shoots, nutrition mix, salad mix, a farmer's choice, and a few specialty varieties, like cilantro, dill, and onion! The nutrition mix is a blend of broccoli, cabbage, and kohlrabi microgreens, while the salad mix is a blend of sunflower shoots, buckwheat, and kale microgreens. The farmer's choice will be a revolving blend of what inspires us each week.

Botanist & Barrel crafts real southern ciders, sours, and dry fruit wines. We are the Souths only natural cidery focused on spontaneous and wild cultures. We craft healthy adult lifestyle beverages for any occasion. We support our local farmers using local sustainably and organically sourced fruits, including blueberries, apples and more from our no spray estate farm. Only tree ripened apples are used in our ciders with a focus on traditional southern heritage cider apples.
All of our ciders and wines contain little to no residual sugar and are low calorie. As an experimental winery we have almost no rules with the exceptions being we never add additives like sulfites and we do not fine, filter or pasteurize any of our ciders or wines.
