Where to find the best apple fritters

in Durham Region

Imagine going on a quest around Durham Region to save fall by trying as many apple fritters as you can!

 

Okay, maybe not that dramatic. Fall wasn’t really at risk.

 

The mission, though, was crucial—Durham has incredible apple orchards throughout the region, and with great apples comes great apple fritters. There are bakeries from Uxbridge to Ajax, and Port Perry to Bowmanville—each of which, pride themselves in making amazing and delicious apple fritters.

 

So, which one was truly the best? For that, I donned my bib, got in my SUV (that’s now officially dubbed the ‘frittermobile’) and headed out on an adventure!

Living nativity in Uxbridge

Experience the joy of that first Christmas at the living nativity in Uxbridge’s Centennial Park. This outdoor re-creating of the Christmas story is complete with narration, authentic costumes and live animals.


There are two presentations every evening at 7:30 and 8:15 p.m. on December 15, 16 and 17.

Discover the charm of the Uxbridge Holiday Trail

Throughout December, get your holiday shopping done at one-of-a-kind boutiques and dine at local restaurants in Uxbridge. Discover the holiday charm of Uxbridge, enjoy the snow people featured in the shop windows, and Holiday Trail specials at local restaurants while attending festive events.


On December 8, 9 and 10, the “Holiday Trail Comes to Life” with life-size games, musicians, strolling characters, a “Toonie Trail” and a guest appearance from Santa and Mrs. Claus. Enjoy a Holiday Trail special at a local eatery and hop on the Town Trolley for a drive through the Optimist Club Fantasy of Lights. Grab a map at the Cobra Fireplace Warming Station at 23 Brock Street to start your journey.

Experience the thrills and chills of

Cirque du Soleil Crystal

Winter is coming, and so is CRYSTAL! Cirque du Soleil is getting ready to bring its coolest arena show to Oshawa and Durham Region audiences from December 7 to 10 at the Tribute Communities Centre, presented by Sun Life. This one-of-a-kind performance features seven traditional circus acts including trapeze, hand-to-hand, Banquine, aerial straps, hand-to-trapeze, juggling, and hand balancing—all performed on ice!


Thrilling more than 1.9 million people worldwide since its creation in 2017, CRYSTAL takes audiences on a journey into a whimsical frozen playground using real snow—a Cirque du Soleil first—and features remastered pop songs including Beyoncé’s Halo, U2’s Beautiful Day, Nina Simone’s Sinnerman, and Sia’s Chandelier.


This show is suitable for all ages.
