June 19 is Father’s Day—a day to recognize and celebrate all of the incredible fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, bonus dads, foster fathers, pet dads and all of the other father figures in our lives. Thank you for everything you do! There are plenty of experiences and events happening in Durham Region to make the day special.
Hit the green and spend the day on the golf course. With several courses ranging from nine-hole to championship courses, enjoy a day that includes good times and beautiful scenery.
Night Market Toronto is bringing the Halal Food Tour to Ajax June 17 to 19 as part of Canada’s first ever Halal Tour.
Join Dish Play for a Father's Day whiskey, beer and wings event on June 18 and sample two whiskies and two beers paired with four flights of chicken wings! Presented with a guided tasting by Beer Diversity's Ren Navarro and Chef Andrea Nicholson.
Experience a taste of multiculturalism in Oshawa during Fiesta Week. The excitement begins June 19 with the Father’s Day Fiesta Parade in Downtown Oshawa. Immediately following the parade is the fiesta concert in Memorial Park, where you'll find multicultural food booths and a beer garden featuring Brock Street Brewery.

Celebrate Pride with
Youth Pride Durham!
|
Save the date! Youth Pride Durham returns in-person on June 4 at Durham Regional Headquarters in Whitby from 1 to 3 p.m. Youth Pride Durham is a safe, inclusive celebration for youth, children and families who are part of the 2SLGBTQI+ community, as well as their allies. This free event champions acceptance through an afternoon of performances, music, dancing and other fun activities. It also provides a forum for community organizations and agencies to gather in the Resource Village, to share information about the programs and supports they offer for 2SLGBTQI+ children, youth and families.

Culinary Corner: Featured Recipe |
Durham Tourism, in partnership with Chef Alex Page, will be sharing seasonal recipes to inspire you to try something different and support local farms.
This month’s recipe: Duck Egg and Herb Frittata with Feta and Olive Oil
What you’ll need:

Eight Alphaven Farms duck eggs
- Half a cup of Greek yogurt
- Four tablespoons of olive oil, divided
- One bunch of fresh parsley, roughly chopped
- One bunch of green onion, thinly sliced
- One bunch of fresh basil, roughly chopped
- Three cups of fresh baby spinach leaves
- One bunch of dill, roughly chopped and divided
- One cup of crumbled feta
Cooking instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Crack the eggs into a large mixing bowl, add the yogurt, two tablespoons of olive oil and a generous seasoning of salt and pepper, whisk to combine completely. Add in parsley, green onion, basil, spinach and half of the fresh dill. Stir to combine.
- Heat one tablespoon of olive oil in a medium-sized, oven-safe, frying pan over medium-high heat. Add egg mixture to the pan, and cook for about five minutes, or until eggs begin to set along the bottom and sides. Top eggs with feta and place in the oven. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until eggs have set completely, and top is golden brown. Remove and allow to cool for five minutes.
- Gently run a spatula around the frittata and place a plate over top of the pan. In a quick motion, flip the frittata out on to the plate. Repeat the process onto a serving plate (to invert the frittata top side up). Drizzle remaining olive oil over frittata and top with remaining dill. Serve immediately.
Recipe serves six.

The Welder's Wife spring outdoor market day |
Take a trip down memory lane. The Welder’s Wife is a destination shopping experience in Beaverton with an array of home and cottage decor, antiques, vintage, modern, traditional items and collectibles.
On June 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. more than 30 local artisans and vendors will be on-site for the Welder’s Wife spring outdoor market day. Stop by for artisan demonstrations, a food truck and a variety of handmade products including baked goods, signs, charcuterie boards, abstract paintings, fibre creations, macrame, garden decor, and more.

The Region of Durham, in partnership with area municipalities and community partners, invites you to celebrate Bike Month by taking part in a series of fun, educational cycling activities from June 1 to 30! Bike Month is an annual month-long celebration of cycling that brings families, employers, commuters and community organizations together at hundreds of events across the Greater Toronto Hamilton Area. Durham Region is hosting a variety of activities to encourage residents to explore its unique landscapes and scenic trails while practising safe cycling.

Get to know Tindall Farm and Market |
For three generations, Tindall Farm and Market's mission has been to provide local communities with top quality fresh produce and great pricing because everything is grown on their farm!
Located in Uxbridge, they farm over 350 acres that grows 125 varieties of vegetables, fruit and herbs including cauliflower and pick-your-own strawberries and pumpkins. They also have a bakery where you can buy handmade baked goods that are made from scratch and never frozen, preserves as well as an artisan market.

City of Oshawa Peony Festival returns in-person |
The City of Oshawa is thrilled to present a return to in-person events kicking off with the Eighteenth annual Peony Festival on June 11 and 12 at the Oshawa Valley Botanical Gardens located adjacent to Children’s Arena (155 Arena Street.)
The award-winning festival will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and features one of Canada’s largest contemporary peony collections in bloom in the gardens, in addition to hundreds of cut blooms displayed inside the arena during the Canadian Peony Society judged peony show.
Admission is free with activities for all ages including garden inspired works for sale by painters, sculptors and artisans, light jazz on the Garden Stage, children’s activities and local food vendors.
There are three contests to enter. Bring your cut peonies to the arena to enter the flower show. Display your artistic interpretation of a peony, in any medium for the art competition. Festival goers will vote for their favourite. Or snap a picture of a peony in the garden and enter the photo contest. All the details are at Oshawa.ca/Peony.

Explore the world of
Anne of Green Gables
|
Returning by popular demand, The Anne and Maud Experience begins June 2 at Pickering Museum Village. Explore the world of Anne of Green Gables in a behind-the-camera tour of the Pickering Museum Village—the set of various 'Anne' productions for almost 40 years. Enjoy a picnic lunch, taste a scone as you blend your own tea, and listen to an audio tour with Anne recounting some of her favourite memories. Visit the historic houses and learn about Lucy Maud Montgomery and historic fashions from Anne's time. Take part in a painting workshop as you bring the past to life in this fun experience. Recommended for ages 12 and up.
