Congratulations
Stride Academy, a charter school, won Innovation Of The Month from the Minnesota Association of Charter Schools for their amazing success with students who have dyslexia and bilingual students.
Two Dyslexia Specialists, who are also Certified Barton Tutors, run the school’s intervention program using the Barton Reading & Spelling System.
They educate parents and teachers about dyslexia, screen students who have 3 or more of the classic warning signs, provide tutoring, and ensure teachers provide classroom accommodations.

Students who struggled and failed at traditional schools are thriving at Stride Academy – academically and socially.

Parents

Parents know their children better than anyone.
Sometimes parents let well-meaning teachers or relatives convince them that their child's struggles with spelling, reading, tying their shoes, creating words that rhyme, learning the names of their letters and sounds, etc. are "nothing to worry about."

Moms and dads (and even grandparents) need to learn to trust their gut — and take action in kindergarten or first grade.

Games for Online Tutors by Janet Menosky Smith
During this pandemic, most Barton tutors are using Whizzimo to tutor remotely. But they struggle to find appropriate online games.
So I created an online game book: Games for Online Tutors: How to Find and Make Games for Students When Tutoring Over the Internet.

The book includes great sites for free practice games, shows how to use One Note, Google Slides or Quizlet, plus has video links that demonstrate many of the games. Specific sites and resources for Barton tutors are listed throughout, as well as a link to 15 ready-made games.
None of the games I made violate copyright rules, and they can be used any time with any lesson.
They are especially great for spelling practice.
When Susan Barton saw my new book, she said:
I absolutely LOVE your Online Games booklet. It contains such incredibly useful information along with links to demonstration videos, links to good existing game sites, and even links to the game boards that you have created (which are wonderful !!!).
