SUMMER UPDATES FROM APUMC

A word from Sarah Cooper about the Wilderness Trail trip...

I am so grateful to have been able to experience something as amazing as Wilderness Trail.

Having never been much of a hiker, I was nervous to step out of my comfort zone to join new and old friends on a 4 day backpacking trip in Troutdale Virginia on the Appalachian trail. This trip not only helped me discover a new interest of mine, but helped me grow my faith while nurturing connections with one another. One of many examples is when we were at our second campsite doing a devotional, when wild horses ran by us. This moment was very special to me, seeing God move through the beauty in front of me with no distractions or stress from my every-day life.

Galatians 6:2 says, “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”

Throughout the week, no hiker in our group failed to live out this verse. Whether it was helping one another put on their pack or simply saying “fore” when a branch may hit the person behind you, everybody played a vital role in each person's experience. Though we faced challenges, I could not have picked a better group to experience them with and I am eternally grateful to have been able to learn more about myself and each other, gaining a new sense of appreciation for God's beautiful creation.
