e-Alert – September 28th, 2021

On Friday September 24, the Chief Provincial Public Health Officer released orders requiring vaccination or testing for designated persons effective as of 12:01 a.m. on October 18, 2021. At this time, categories of designated persons include the following:

1. Health care personnel
Persons who have direct contact with patients, residents and clients at:
(a) hospitals;
(b) northern nursing stations operated by the Government of Manitoba;
(c) personal care homes or supportive housing facilities;
(d) facilities operated by Shared Health Inc., a regional health authority, Addictions Foundation of Manitoba or a community services agency that are the subject of a funding agreement with Shared Health Inc. or a regional health authority;
(e) a residential mental health facility or addictions treatment facility that is operated by or the subject of a funding agreement with the Government of Manitoba.
For certainty, this includes physicians, nurses, allied health professionals, health care aides, cleaning staff, support services staff as well as persons volunteering at those facilities who have direct contact with patients, residents and clients.

2. School personnel
3. Licensed child care facility personnel
4. Civil servants in direct contact with vulnerable populations
5. Child and family service personnel
6. Funded agency personnel in direct contact with vulnerable populations
7. Home care workers
8. Paramedics and emergency medical responders

All MDA members that fall in the categories of designated persons will be required to comply with the order. For full details see the Public Health Order:

The MDA regulates dentistry and dental assisting in MB in the Public interest. As such, we fully Support Manitoba Heath and current public health measures taken for combatting COVID-19 pandemic including, but not limited to mandatory indoor masking, physical distancing, and vaccines among others. 

Vaccination continues to be an effective preventative tool for all Manitobans in the fight on COVID-19, including against the alpha and delta variants of concern. The MDA strongly recommends vaccination against COVID-19 for all dentists and dental assistants.
