RICHARD ERNEST CAMERON

September 1, 1939, — December 30, 2025

Richard Ernest Cameron was born in Superior, Wisconsin on

September 1, 1939 to Harriet and Ernest Cameron. He attended school in Superior and graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in Biology and a Masters Degree in Psychology and Guidance Counseling.

A lover of the natural world, he worked as a Park Ranger at several National Parks and as a limnologist on the Alaskan Kanai Peninsula. After traveling in Europe for six months, he began his career as a guidance counselor in Minneapolis at Robbinsdale Armstrong High School where he was employed until his retirement. Here he met Phyllis Lindstrom; they were married on June 15, 1974. After retirement, he and Phyllis lived in a log home on Leech Lake in Northern Minnesota, until the weather and the isolation brought them to Tucson.

Richard is survived by his wife of 51 years, Phyllis; his sister Joan Hendershot (Dan); and nieces Lisa Pease (Jon) and Amy Antonich (Roger); sisters-in-law Corinne Lindstrom and Judy Jabs (Lyle); nieces Sara Gaebe (Phil), LeAnne Jabs (Mike Connors) and Jennifer Kelleher (Neil) and nephews Richard Lindstrom (Arleen) and Steven Lindstrom (Laurie).

A memorial service and reception will be held tomorrow, Saturday January 17th at 11am at Grace St. Paul’s Episcopal Church,

2331 E. Adams Street, Tucson AZ.

Officiant will be The Rev. Steve Keplinger.

Please wear bright colors in honor of Richard!

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made out to Joseph's Pantry.

A Giving & Receiving

News Release

What: GSP people who have ‘been around’ for a while know

that we do a fundraising campaign annually. If you’re new to GSP, you just learned one important way we raise money for the work we do in pursuit of earth justice, migrant justice, and social justice.

Why: The church requires money to meet our operating expenses and fulfill our mission. Costs increase each year the same as a family’s costs go up. Estimates of Giving enable GSP to set mission priorities and manage cash flow as part of responsible and accountable leadership.

When: Sunday is the start of our effort to ask members and friends to estimate the amount they will donate to GSP during 2026. (We use the word ‘estimate’ to recognize that circumstances change in people’s lives and finances. An estimate can be revised when necessary.)

Where: Forms to submit your estimate will be available during worship and in mailings. Online entry of estimates can be made through the church’s web site. You can also e-mail, write, or call the office to convey your estimate.

Who: YOU! Our estimates reflect the total of planned donations from the household and individuals. An individual estimate is a good way for a young person to learn the practice of regular donations to form a closer bond with the work of the church and with the people in the faith community.

How: Faithful giving is a spiritual discipline. We encourage giving a proportion

(percentage) of income each time you receive income. We also encourage people to make their church donation the first expenditure each time they receive income. These practices help us remember to be grateful for the income and other blessings we receive, and to be generous in sharing a portion of those blessings as we seek to follow Jesus.

-Thursday, January 29th, 5pm, in McBride Hall, Communion service on “The War Within” led by Father Allen.

We’ve heard from church members that they’d like a smaller venue – Spirit Now’s answering that call … our services are held in the Chancel, in McBride Hall, or on Zoom, and are building blocks for the larger church to get together and share faith practices in smaller groups. It’s a more intimate place to read and reflect about our thoughts, our church, our communities, and our world.

If you’d like to receive announcements regarding Spirit Now’s services direct to your email, please contact Kim at moanatucson@gmail.com

Every Friday from 12:15pm - 1:30pm in the Bloom Room

Our Centering Prayer group continues to meet every Friday at 12:15 in the Bloom Room for the shared practice of Centering Prayer. Our membership includes people from other faith traditions as well as many GSP parishioners.

The practice of Centering Prayer can be done alone by anyone anywhere, but our members find that being together (even in silence) really makes a difference. Our group is open to all who are in need of some quiet, dedicated time to rest in the presence of God in this busy and uneasy world.

Blessings,
