At Our Rising
God of glory, at its rising, the star drew Magi who traveled to Jerusalem bearing gifts for your Son. At his rising, your Son appeared to his followers, who traveled to distant lands bearing the gift of salvation for everyone.
At our rising each day may we, your people, move forward in faith and hope.
May we become gifts for each other, gifts that enrich, that guide, heal, console, and uplift so that at our rising from the dead you may receive us into the light of your eternal glory. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Dear Parishioners,
I came across a powerful description of empathy recently:
Empathy is not sympathy. Sympathy is looking across at someone and feeling sorrow, often in times of loss. Empathy is not pity. Pity is looking down from above and feeling a distant sadness for another in their misfortune. Empathy is commonly viewed as putting yourself in someone else’s shoes and imagining how you would feel. That could be seen as a start, but that is little more than role-playing, and it is not enough in the ruptured world we live in. READ FR. PHIL'S FULL MESSAGE

SJB Supports Habitat for Humanity "Faith Build"
|
|
Need a different reason to come to Mass, outside of the becoming one with God
through the Eucharist?! How about ‘Sign-A-Stud’
No, we are not signing Fr. Phil’s vestments!
A parish family donated two 2X4’s (aka studs) that will be used in the building of Kitti’s home. As a way to continue to ‘build’ funds for Habitat and Kitti (pun intended) … for a small donation, parishioners can write a bible verse, sign their name, offer a blessing, or draw a picture directly on the stud. The stud will then be placed inside the Faith Build home during construction. Stop by the tables on your way out of Mass the weekends of January 2/3 and 9/10 to participate! We will continue to follow safe social distancing and offer clean/unused markers to sign, asking that used markers be put in a separate container. Thanks for joining in the Christmas festivities!

Bust the Deficit Campaign
|
|
With two weeks to go, we are within sight of our $85,000 goal.
As of December 25th , donations total $72,534.
Together, we build up our Church so that we can share the Good News of Jesus Christ.
THANK YOU!
|
|
If you have not donated to the Bust the Deficit Campaign, we ask you to consider supporting your parish during this extraordinary time. We ask you to share your blessings with our parish school, youth, and adult formation programs so that we can thrive. Your donations also support members of our community, such as Grab and Go meals or streaming Mass for those who are not able to attend. And, while the Church is not a building, without our building, we cannot gather to share as a community - as we hope to again soon. New Year Blessings from the SJB Finance Council.

One Percent Prayer
Our days in this challenging year of 2020 have come to an end. This unique moment in our lives provides us with an opportunity to come closer to Christ. Our invitation to you is to spend the first 30 days of 2021 growing in your Catholic discipleship through daily prayer. The offices at the Archdiocese have put together this simple initiative for you to take 1% of your day for 30 days to get to know Jesus better in personal prayer and daily scripture reading. Will you join us? You can find out more information and sign up with the link below.

ALHPA - It’s back – by popular demand! Alpha will return to the St. John the Baptist and St. Thomas Aquinas parish communities this spring. Alpha is a series of group conversations that explore life, spirituality, and faith through a Christian lens. Through small groups, participants have the opportunity to ask their questions, share ideas, build friendships, and experience the love of God through the power of the Holy Spirit.
All are welcome! We will meet on Sunday nights throughout the spring, beginning on February 21. Registration and complete details will be available in mid-January. We look forward to seeing you at Alpha!
