CEO's Corner
Finding the right people

President/CEO
Business leaders who attended  Beyond the Cloud 4.0 were treated to an unexpected takeaway during the panel discussion with our  2016 Economic Driver Award winners.  I'd like to share it with you now because it may help you tackle one of the greatest challenges faced by both large and small employers in a growing economy - finding the right people for your company.

Opening keynote speaker Lana Khavinson, LinkedIn impressed everyone with her description of the exponential growth of the world's largest business network. She also provided great slides and an excellent 'how to' overview especially helpful for those of us less familiar. Yet it was not until 30 minutes later and in the middle of the 'Beyond the Cloud' panel discussion that the ultimate takeaway revealed itself in the form of three eye-opening testimonials.

When asked if/how their companies use LinkedIn, both Tim Harkness, CEO of Unchained Labs and Debra Van Sickle, Co-Founder of Peridot said their companies rely on LinkedIn almost exclusively for recruitment purposes; Susan Chenoweth, SVP of Marketing for Ellie Mae shared that if not for LinkedIn she would not have landed at Ellie Mae five years ago where nearly 900 of their approximate 1,000 employees are currently on LinkedIn.

Three very different, and very successful companies headquartered in Pleasanton have LinkedIn in common for meeting the challenge of finding the right people.  Are you and your company making the most of LinkedIn?

Our great thanks to panel moderator, Joe Cristiano; to the City of Pleasanton, our partner in presenting Beyond the Cloud 4.0; to our event sponsors
DePretis CPA's, Hacienda, Mirador Capital Partners, PG&E, Pleasanton Garbage Services, Sensiba San Filippo and  Amos Productions .

On behalf of the Chamber Board of Directors and staff - happy holidays and best wishes to you, your families, colleagues and friends in the New Year!  Now back to growing my LinkedIn network.

Starting January 1, 2017, Pleasanton businesses and multi-family properties with five or more units will be required to provide adequate on-site collection service for compostable materials (organics) as well as recyclable materials, under Alameda County's Mandatory Recycling Ordinance. The Pleasanton Art League (PAL) hosted a fabulous mixer in October at the Firehouse Arts Center. Guests had the opportunity to view the annual Members' Exhibit in the Harrington Gallery as well as learn more about the Art Circuit where PAL provides original artwork to hang in your business. November's Fall Tradeshow Mixer at the Marriott Pleasanton was a festive evening with over 40 vendors, great food and drink and lots of networking.
