BACPAC announces endorsements per 2020 priorities
Scott Raty
President/CEO
Central to the mission of the Chamber are our efforts to strengthen the local economy and represent the interests of business to government.

Those efforts are articulated in Pleasanton 2020: A Community Vision - a 12-page document, available on our website, containing measurable goals the community can and should achieve by 2020. The areas covered are: arts, culture, recreation, education, health & human services, housing, leadership, the local economy, public safety and infrastructure.

Pleasanton 2020  is also the barometer used by the Pleasanton Chamber's Business and Community Political Action Committee (BACPAC) to interview and endorse candidates for office, thereby ensuring a very transparent process.
BACPAC, chaired by past Chamber Board Chairman John Sensiba, is pleased to announce its endorsements for Mayor, City Council, and Pleasanton Unified School Board of Trustees running in this November's election.
Decisions were based on interviews with all candidates, and in the case of the mayor and council races, a recent public forum sponsored by the BACPAC in which candidates addressed priorities and answered questions rooted in Pleasanton 2020.

Pleasanton Kids Learn How to Make Healthy Snacks  - Try It After School Snack Class
New program offered by New Leaf Community Market, Pans on Fire & Pleasanton Library
On a Tuesday afternoon in late September, two dozen Pleasanton elementary and middle school students crowded  around Pans on Fire Chef Sarah as she demonstrated how to prepare several easy-to-make, kid-friendly healthy dips and snacks. The students looked on as a few of their peers helped with the measuring and mixing. During the class they learned about the health benefits of the various ingredients used including alternatives to refined sugar, and the importance of cleanliness and food safety in the kitchen. The students' favorite part of the class was obviously sampling all of the tasty recipes!
The Pleasanton Public Library hosts this interactive, monthly program typically in their large meeting room on the third Tuesday of every month from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Launched in August, the demonstration classes are free and geared to middle school students, but all age students and their parents are welcome.

The next class on October 18 will feature healthy Halloween-themed snacks, and holiday side dishes will be the focus on November 15. The program will resume in January through the end of the school year. Students and families can register to attend at www.newleaf.com/events and walk-ins are welcome.

For 40 years, Dahlin Group has been crafting unique architecture and planning solutions. Thank you to Lauri Moffet-Fehlberg, Janessa Scott and everyone at Dahiln Group for hosting a wonderful mixer in August.  To view more photos from this mixer, visit the Chamber's Facebook page.

Six Chamber members joined together to co-host September's mixer. A great crowd turned out and enjoyed burgers and fries from Fuddruckers, ice cream, sangria and sandwiches and had the opportunity to learn a little bit more about each of our host businesses. View more photos from the mixer here.
Thank you to the following six businesses for hosting:

Pleasanton Veterans Memorial Fund Raising Complete
More than $316,000 was raised by local veterans in just over 10 months
On August 31, the Pleasanton Veterans Memorial Committee presented a check to Mayor Jerry Thorne and City Manager Nelson Fialho that surpassed the fund raising goal for the memorial.
The Pleasanton City Council approved the memorial plans on November 4, 2015 and fund raising began the next day. Construction began in July after most of the funds had been secured. With the exception of a bronze statue, construction is now complete at the site. The statue is scheduled to be shipped later this month.
The memorial is being built at Pioneer Cemetery on Sunol Boulevard and will be dedicated on Saturday, November 12, 2016. The ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m. There will be a reception immediately following at the Veteran's Memorial Building.  Click here for more information.
