Hi Caldwell Baptists!

Summer is here and the Lord is turning the heat up a little this week, but thankfully God gave us air conditioning! There’s so much going on in our churches right now and I am thankful for the reports we have received on VBS, mission trips, and other church events. Miller Hill had a one-day Bible School and reported that they had 22 kids and 19 workers attending, and three children accepted the gift of salvation in Jesus Christ - Praise the Lord! Kings Creek Baptist Church is taking a mission team to Spruce Pine next week to help with Helene recovery/rebuild efforts. Pray for them as they build relationships and share the gospel message. Union Grove reported an average student attendance of 292 with 5 decisions for Christ. Dudley Shoals extended their 3-day VBS from last year to a full week this year. They had over 300 in attendance with 4 decisions for Christ. To God be the glory for what He is doing through Vacation Bible School. These new followers of Christ need spiritual nourishment. They need to grow in their knowledge of God and His Word! Now is the time to get busy discipling them, loving them, and teaching them His word as He commanded us. 

Another praise to the glory of God: Last Sunday Lower Creek Baptist Church celebrated their 200th Birthday as a church! Lower Creek is one of the charter member churches in the Caldwell Baptist Association. Gabe Magan from the Baptist State Convention of NC brought a message from the book of Joshua with a challenge to remember what the Lord has done for and through His faithful people. The history of what God has done serves to remind us of His power and goodness and helps us focus on what He wants to do through His church until He comes back. 

Speaking of focusing on what is ahead, on July 30 we have our Summer Gathering, which is a time for us to connect and focus on our mission as an association of churches. Aside from the business (which will be short), we will spend time worshipping the Lord and hearing from His word. All members of our association churches (not just messengers) are encouraged to come. Then following the meeting we will enjoy ice cream (which, I’ve heard, is full of vitamins and is good for you), and our annual Services and Mission Fair. 

Help us spread the word! Our Summer Gathering will be on July 30th at Dudley Shoals Baptist Church at 7 pm with Ice Cream and Services and Missions Fair at 8 pm. Our Summer Gathering Theme is: The Saving Power of Prayer. Be sure to remind everyone that we are having ice cream! Worship + Hearing from God’s Word + Ice Cream! That’s pretty close to what heaven is like!

Hello Caldwell Baptists! 

I need to address an issue that we are unfortunately having to deal with concerning email fraud / scams. It has come to our attention that some of our pastors and church members have been receiving emails in the name of the Caldwell Baptist Association and in my name. Other Baptist Associations have been dealing with the same issue. These are usually “phishing” scams from cybercriminals, who may be in some other part of the world, that are impersonating trusted organizations and entities in an attempt to get people to send them money, gift cards, Social Security numbers, bank account information, etc. PLEASE KNOW THAT ANY EMAIL YOU GET FROM THE CALDWELL BAPTIST ASSOCIATION WILL NOT BE ASKING FOR YOU TO GIVE MONEY OR GIFT CARDS TO BE GIVEN DIRECTLY TO THE CALDWELL BAPTIST ASSOCIATION or to me as the executive director. IF YOU EVER HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT EMAILS SUPPOSEDLY COMING FROM US PLEASE CALL OUR OFFICE AT 828-758-4081 AND ASK ABOUT IT. WE DO NOT MIND AND WE NEED TO KNOW WHEN OUR NAME IS BEING USED. 

Things to look for: 

• Our email system here at the association has not been hacked. Cybercriminals simply use AI to gather information on religious and charitable organizations and use the information to attempt to lure trusting people to give up personal information or money. They use AI to make possible connections between organizations and people. They can do so by using one word, such as “baptist.” This system of cyber crime is called “phishing,” similar to fishing as they are phishing for personal information and people to scam. 
• When we, here at the Caldwell Baptist Association, promote missions giving we always ask that individuals give through their own local church. We never ask anyone to drop gift cards off in our drop box in our parking lot. 
• As your Associational Mission Strategist (AMS), I will never email or text you asking you to buy gift cards or to send money to me or the association. (If I ever would ask you to give or donate funds to anything, I would do so in person, face to face or in a personal phone call.)
• Check the email web address to see who the email is coming from. The association’s email addresses are office@caldwellbaptist.org and ams@caldwellbaptist.org. Any other address is not from us!!! 
• I never sign emails as “Executive Director” or “Executive Director / CEO, Caldwell Baptist Association.” My emails, such as my E-Caller articles, will simply be signed, “Chuck”, or
• “Be Joyful, Brother Chuck” or similar. 
• Most email providers like Google or Yahoo provide information on reporting phishing and other cyber crime activity. 

What to do when you receive suspicious emails from us? 

• Don’t hesitate to call us and let us know here at the association office so we can report it. 
• Don’t panic! Simply do not respond to the email. If you accidentally open such an email don’t worry, these emails typically will not harm your computer, they are only trying to get you to respond and give up personal information, or to get you to send money in some form or method. 
• Report scam activity to your internet service provider or your email provider. You can find information on how to report phishing scams on Google. 
• Delete the phishing emails. 

We sincerely hope that you will not stop communicating with us or stop getting our E-Caller newsletter. Satan is a liar and deceiver (John 8:44) and he will do anything he can to divide God’s people. Please don’t let him win!
