David Shanklin, Assistant Director of Music
God gave us music so that we can pray without words. Through times of joy as well as through tearful and heartbreaking times, there has always been and always will be music. Music is stored in our heart and it warms the soul. As I write this we have just learned that due to increased pandemic restrictions masks will be required at all indoor activities, even when social distancing can be maintained. That means that at least for the foreseeable future there will be no singing and no wind instruments used in our worship services, as neither of these can be done while wearing a mask. As disheartening as this is, it also presents fertile ground for change, and it will not keep us from worshiping God with music. Music is still one of the best vehicles we have to worship God, and we will continue to do so with instruments such as piano, organ, keyboards, string instruments, handbells, and hand chimes. Please pray for us as we continue to adapt to these changes. Let us not forget how very blessed we are, and that our God is still in charge. Everything will be all right! All glory to God!

Update on Needs for Thanksgiving Food Baskets
UPDATE: We are in need of canned goods (green beans, corn, potatoes), stuffing mix, gravy, macaroni & cheese, cookies, peanut butter, and cereal. In lieu of the Sunday school Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets, we are having a churchwide non-perishable Food Drive, now through December 15. Food bins are located in the Narthex, or we can pick up food items upon request. Thanksgiving food will be distributed to our 35 local families from Heart & Hand on Nov. 22, and Christmas food will be distributed along with the Angel Tree clothing and toys no later than Dec. 20.
Annual Charge Conference
Thursday, November 19, 7:30 p.m.
Forrest Burdette Memorial UMC
Led by District Superintendent Rev. Joe Hill
Purpose: elect officers, set pastors’ salaries, receive apportionments. All church members are invited to attend. Masks and social distancing will be required.
Pigment of My Imagination Painting Classes
Who's up for a socially distanced painting class? We will meet in the Fellowship Hall, sit one to a table (unless you come with someone in your family), wear masks, and not share any food (sorry, bring your own!). Classes will be strictly limited to 10 people. If more interest is shown, more classes will be scheduled. I think we can be safe and still create some art for the holidays! Dates:
  • Monday 11/23, 10am-12pm
  • Tuesday 12/1, 6-8pm
Cost: $20 proceeds to the Building Fund. To register, call Julie Conley at 304 614 3980.
PipeSounds Presents... "Caroling! Caroling!"
Sunday, November 29, 2020, 3:00 p.m.
Guest artist Rodney Barbour returns to play beloved, familiar carols and songs of Christmas on the Harrah Symphonic Organ. There are two ways to enjoy this holiday tradition. 1) 100 people may safely attend this free concert by reserving a seat in advance. Call the church office at 304-562-5903. First come, first served. 2) The concert will be live-streamed on Facebook, so you may enjoy it from your home! Visit: www.facebook.com/forrestburdettemumc and click on the event at 3:00 p.m.
Angel Tree Update
REMEMBER: We can mail an angel to you! Call the church office! There are many angels left! This year's Angel Tree is in the Narthex with 75 children from 35 families assigned to us by Heart & Hand! You may pick an Angel off the tree as normal, or you may call the church office (304-562-6103) to request that an Angel be mailed to you. Unwrapped gifts, with your Angel attached, are due by December 15. Contact JoAnn Kennedy (304-561-7100) or Lisa Fawcett (304-539-2860) if you need us to pick up your gifts from your home. If you would rather we shop for you, please mark your donation check "Angel Tree". Donations of new rolls of wrapping paper or gift bags are welcome as well.
Wednesday Bible Studies
Three Wednesday Bible studies are now offered for your spiritual growth! Pastor Ed's morning study meets at 10:45, in the sanctuary. The group is studying I Thessalonians, and you are welcome to join in! Please bring your Bible and a mask.
Chris Clark's Wednesday evening Bible study meets at 6:30 p.m., in the Fellowship Hall. Everyone is welcome as the group studies Philippians and "Finding Joy in Difficult Times". Bring your Bible and a mask.
Malinda Shanklin is leading a Wednesday evening class, using the book Finding Bethlehem in the Midst of Bedlam by James W. Moore and Joseph Crowe. This class also meets at 6:30 p.m., in room 111.
Stay connected and in the Word!

Gen Z Devo Challenge
There are 30 Days in November, and there are 30 Days in our new Devotional! Join FBUth all month long as they team up with their friends Carll and Andy from Sunday Cool in “The Word According to Gen Z: A 30-Day Devo Challenge Using a Made-Up Language for a Real Generation”.
The challenge will be met, and for those who compete it with us, enter into a chance to win their very own Sunday Cool Tee/Gen Z merch!
