 July 22, 2019

A month later there are still people talking about our Vacation Bible School. We even had rave reviews from kiddos saying, "Forrest Burdette has the FUN vacation Bible school!" So, I just want to say thank you again to everyone who made it possible. It's because of all of you that we can make it fun. We have so many people helping that it creates an environment of faith and love and lots of fun. I truly appreciate everyone who carved out time for ministry, because that's what it is.
All of your help makes me think of the sermon on Sunday. It was the familiar story of Mary and Martha, where Mary stopped what she was doing to spend time with Jesus, and Martha continued toiling away in the kitchen. Jesus urges Martha not to be distracted and worry but to choose the essentials, spending time with God - the main course. Pastor Ed told us this, "Do not be so busy that you miss the main course." Find time to spend with Jesus, even if it is praying at red lights. Remember to seek God above all things.
That's what VBS does; it disrupts our busy lives and injects it with Jesus. Imagine if we found other ways to disrupt our busy world with more Jesus. "Glory to God who is able to do far beyond all that we could ask or imagine by his power at work within us." Ep 3:20.

OCC Collection
It's Christmas in July! We're collecting items for our Operation Christmas Child Packing Party. Each family is encouraged to bring school supplies - as little or as much as you're able. A school pack of pencils, pencil sharpener, pen, eraser, notebook, crayons or colored pencils will be packed in each box. Look for sales and clearances as we focus on school supplies this summer.
Quilters Welcome!
Join us every Tuesday at 9:30 a.m., to help with the charity quilts we give away at Christmas or the baby blankets we give to CAMC. We welcome your sewing skills and fellowship, so please join us when you are able, Tuesdays, 9:30-11:30, in Byrd Hall. Thank you!

We Care Ministry Seeking More Teams
The Forrest Burdette "We Care" ministry focuses on monthly lay visitation to our members who are not able to easily leave their homes or care facilities and could use a friendly visit. If you would like to be part of this important ministry, please contact the church office, or talk to one of our pastors. Next meeting: August 7, 12:00 p.m.
