Hi again, everyone!  COM is winding down from a busy, fun summer and gearing up for a fantastic fall. Our enrollment is quickly filling up for fall, and we are looking forward to a future of happy, busy children learning both academically and spiritually. We are always open to having you come in and share your talents with us; whichever age group you would feel would benefit, we can schedule you in. It would be great to have some simple sewing or woodworking for the school agers, or some collage making or puppet shows for the young ones. Also, we do a short devotional time 3 mornings a week in the sanctuary and would love a guest leader to bring some new faces for the children to relate to, within the church and teaching about God's love.
Something new we have implemented over the summer is that we have started sending Jesus home with a different child every few days. The children and/or parents then write a bit about the things Jesus did with them while visiting. This is just a continuation of our discussion of how Jesus is always with us and a concrete reminder for children to keep Jesus with them as they go about their daily lives. The children love participating, and we love reading and sharing the experiences and adventures Jesus has each week. It's been a very fun part of our ministry. Some narratives that have been shared include, "Jesus went with us to pizza & the grocery store. Whenever someone commented on their 'stuffed doll' both children proudly told them it was Jesus and that he was with them wherever they went", and "I took Jesus to a pool party... we roasted marshmallows and hot dogs. I also took Jesus to church...everyone knew him there. He sat with me while I played video games and ate dinner with my family. I enjoyed having Jesus with me." And one more, "I went to sleep with it I played with it and I took it on a field trip with me...I hope he had a good time with me, we had a lot of fun. I hugged it so it could be happy so He would not get sad or mad cause I love Jesus..." It seems to be working.
As always thanks so very much for your support and prayers for our ministry.

Operation Christmas Child  - 2 Ways to Help
It's Christmas in July!  Preparation for the Operation Christmas Child Packing Party has begun. There are two ways you can help:

1. Take a labeled bag after the service, and return the requested items to the OCC storage bin in the Narthex

2. Join the OCC sewing group this Tuesday afternoon, 12:30-3:30, to make pillowcase dresses. There's a job for everyone - cut, iron, and sew. It's a special gift, both for the giver and the receiver! Meet in Byrd Hall.
