 May 13, 2019

I would like to thank those of you who attended the organ concert I played last week. Those with whom I spoke were very positive about the particular pieces I played with the most individual comments coming regarding the "Suite from Interstellar" and "All Hail the Power of Jesus Name". I continue to be amazed with the capabilities of the Harrah Symphonic Organ and hope that those of you who hear it each week appreciate the magnitude of the gift we have in this instrument! I only utilize a small portion of its capabilities each week in worship.
As I worked through different stages of preparing the pieces and how each stage leads to another in the details of the actual music, I became aware of how much I wish our choir and orchestra could have the regularity of practice with attention to detail. With the inconsistency of rehearsal attendance it often seems we barely get the notes and words of a each piece adequately prepared for worship. It's common for individuals to think their presence makes little difference in rehearsal, but the fact is that we are interdependent on each other for stability and performance energy. Sometimes one individual can energize several other persons thus giving the performance more life and expressiveness.
In a day when choirs are often dwindling in number, I pray the people of Forrest Burdette will "step up to the plate" and support this ensemble with their presence. If we have stable and regular attendance the depth that exists in the music can be realized! Shouldn't the music that glorifies God and edifies his people be of the highest quality?
God bless and multiply the membership of the musical ensembles of our church!

VBS: To Mars & Beyond!
Vacation Bible School is coming sooner than you think. From June 23-28, we will blast off "To Mars and Beyond!" as VBS takes us into outer space. Every year we have an evening session (23-27, 6-8 p.m.) for the church and community and a morning session (24-28, 9-11 a.m.) for our COM Summer Safari. We need lots of helping hands for both sessions, so please click here for the volunteer form or talk to JaynĂ© Kirk! There are jobs for everyone, but the best part of VBS is being blessed to be a blessing to all the children who attend. I hope you join us!
A Note of Thanks
I would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support during Dick's illness and most recently after his death. My family and I appreciate your thoughtfulness and care.
