May 11, 2020

As I sat down to work on my article, my family's topic suggestions of toilet paper and pandas were less than helpful; and I thought to myself, "I might as well just write about this cat!" And then I realized, I really should.
My little, black cat, Darcy, has been my daily shadow these last couple of months. Any time I'm at rest she comes and finds me. When I'm at the kitchen table she curls up on my lap, she perches herself on the couch beside me, even now she's beneath my feet as I type. Sometimes she'll even track me down when I'm in the kitchen or the office, and I'll hear a soft "mew" calling my attention to her for a snuggle. And as I recalled all of this, I heard a whisper in my heart, "Draw near to me, and I will draw near to you." (James 4:8)
God is always here for us, waiting, knocking for our attention (Rev. 3:20, a favorite chapter). God is with us always; we are the ones who fail to draw nearer to God. My fuzzy friend has figured this out so much better than us. When she's near her master she is comforted and protected, she has her needs met and is living in the overflow. In this time filled with questions and not many clear answers, I have a direction. Draw near to God. James 4:8 goes on to instruct us to cleanse our hands and our lives, to get rid of all the negative things of the world that separate us from our purpose and our Heavenly Father.
Draw near and find your rest. (Click here to listen to Meredith Andrew's Draw Me Nearer)

The Upper Room Devotionals
The church has received our subscription of May-June 2020 daily devotionals from The Upper Room. If you would like us to mail a copy to you, please give us a call, and specify if you need the large print issue or not. We want these booklets to go to good use! (304-562-5903)

Graduates: College & High School
We would like to know who our college graduates are this spring. Parents, can you help us by calling or emailing the church with your graduate's name, school, and degree? Also, all high school seniors should have received a letter from Pastor Jeremy. Please respond to his letter if you haven't already. Many thanks!

Your Prayers & Thanksgivings
During the weeks of closures and the pandemic, we welcome your regular prayers and continued giving. This is the perfect time to learn about our online giving option. Click here to access the online giving instructions from the Forrest Burdette website . Your continued giving to the church during this time, as you are able, is important for us to keep paying our expenses. Thank you so much for sending your offerings! If not online, then please mail your regular offering to 2848 Putnam Avenue, Hurricane WV 25526. To save a stamp, you may deposit your offering in our locked mailbox on Putnam Avenue. Open the top door, and slide your envelope all the way to the back of the box, where it will fall into the locked area. Thank you, as always, for your support of this ministry.

Do you need a mask?
We know of a handful of members who are making masks. If you need a mask, please contact the church office, and we can put you in contact with our mask-makers. (304-562-5903)
