 August 12, 2019

The end is near!.....(of summer). As the summer is winding down and everyone is trying to squeeze in one last vacation, the choir will take a well-deserved break the week of August 18th. The orchestra will play the anthem that Sunday. The next practice for the choir will be Thursday, August 22nd. On September 5th choir will resume regular weekly practices with a fall kickoff at the home of Mike and Donna Barnhouse. We will have a brief practice at 7:00 p.m., followed by food and fellowship. This would be a great time to come and join the choir and get to know our choir family. The only qualification is that you have to show up and enjoy singing for the glory of God. We are going to start providing child care during Thursday choir practices beginning September 12th, so if you haven't joined the choir yet because of the kids, now you can bring them with you. Starting September 19th, the first 45 minutes of each practice will be devoted to the Christmas Cantata. Our goal is to fill the choir loft for the cantata this year, so please come and sing with us every Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
Your talent is God's gift to you. What you do with it is your gift back to God!
David Shanklin,  Choir Director
Acolyte Training
Calling all new 3rd graders!  We would love to have you help us in our worship services! Join the older kids for training (a refresher for those who are current acolytes), and we'll get you -and your parents- ready to spread God's Light. Please, let me know if you will be attending either August 18 or August 25 , during Sunday school (9:45 a.m.), in the Sanctuary.

Uth & Young Adults' Cookout at the Parsonage
ALL youth & young adults are invited to the parsonage for a cookout with Pastor Ed & Brenda! Join us next Sunday, August 18, at 6:00 p.m., 110 Mulberry Drive, Hurricane. If you need a ride, please let Pastor Jeremy know, and he can drive a church van full of people over to the event.
Operation Christmas Child
We're packing 150 boxes for girls and boys ages 10-14 and already have enough crayons, colored pencils, erasers, sharpeners, pencils, scissors, and stuffed animals.
During the month of August, please bring one subject notebooks, pencil pouches, and toys for boxes: LEGO's, marbles, cards, dominoes , balls, and dolls work well for this age group.
In addition to purchasing items, thank you to those who've come to sew dresses and backpacks on Tuesdays. We need fabric to make 50 more dresses and seamstresses, too! Please join us Tuesday, from 12:30-3:30, in Byrd Hall.
What a blessing to demonstrate God's love in a tangible way to children around the world. We are blessed to be a blessing.

We Care Ministry Seeking More Teams
The Forrest Burdette "We Care" ministry focuses on monthly lay visitation to our members who are not able to easily leave their homes or care facilities and could use a friendly visit. If you would like to be part of this important ministry, please contact the church office, or talk to one of our pastors.
