July 13, 2020

I think we can all agree that the world seems a bit crazy right now. We have been scrambling for months in a pandemic, and we are being confronted with some agonizingly tough issues that have been simmering under the surface for generations. Within just a few months we have made enormous changes to how we live and behave. We have changed how we interact socially, how we gather food, how we celebrate major life events, how we work, and how we worship. We have adapted so quickly that many already accept some of these changes as routine. We are finding that some of what used to be "normal" may not be what is best. When we are able to bring back some old cherished traditions, maybe we can also add some new traditions. Romans 15:13 says: " May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."  I pray that as the church adapts to these changes, we can all come together with purpose and with the desire to deal positively with the current issues, and to focus on the hope that the chaos we're living in can usher in better times for the future.

Prayers Requested for our Scouts!
Yesterday, 20 Scouts and 7 adult leaders from Scouts BSA Troop 236, our male troop, left for the Summit Bechtel Reserve in Glen Jean, WV, for a long-anticipated week of summer camp. The week will be full of social distancing, mask wearing, hand sanitizing, earning badges, and high adventure fun. Please keep our group in your prayers this week and for their safe return on Saturday.

Summer Confirmation Classes
Our youth Confirmation class will safely meet on Sunday evenings (7/12, 7/19, 8/2, and 8/9) from 6:30-8:30 p.m., in the upstairs youth rooms, 219 and 225A.

Summer Camp for Troop 360
Scouts BSA Troop 360, our female troop, created their own summer camp at Jumping Branch, WV (near Hinton), June 21-27. Five girls and 3 adults spent the week together, learning, earning, kayaking, and having fun! They even took a trip to tour the bunker at the Greenbrier. The week ended with a campfire and Court of Honor (seen below).

Fundraising Opportunity for Heart + Hand!
Donations for our new Forrest Burdette, FBUth, and FBKids logos face mask (gaiter style) will go toward the purchase of a free little library at Heart + Hand Thrift Store, just like the one we have at Forrest Burdette! Any funds raised over the amount needed will go toward the purchase of new books to be shared. $10 suggested donation. Masks are available in the office during the week or on Sundays in the Narthex.

Remember the Cupboard
The Christian Community Cupboard has continued to serve our community throughout this pandemic. Please remember them when shopping. Especially needed from Forrest Burdette are canned peas and canned carrots.

Please RSVP for In-Person Worship
Remember to call or email the church to reserve a spot at one of our in-person worship services each week. Services are offered Sundays at 10:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m . Please contact the office by Friday afternoon for Sunday reservations. (304-562-5903, office@forrestburdette.com)

Live Stream Tech Volunteers Needed
To help continue our Facebook-Live presence for our 10:30 a.m. worship services moving forward, we are going to need several volunteers to train and learn the process to help this outreach. We are blessed with the technology to be able to reach others for Christ in this new way. Please consider being a part of this team! Please contact Karen in the office or Pastor Jeremy.

Your Prayers & Thanksgivings
We welcome your regular prayers and continued giving. This is the perfect time to learn about our online giving option. Click here to access the online giving instructions from the Forrest Burdette website . Your continued giving to the church during this time, as you are able, is important for us to keep paying our expenses. Thank you so much for sending your offerings! If not online, then please mail your regular offering to 2848 Putnam Avenue, Hurricane WV 25526. To save a stamp, you may deposit your offering in our locked mailbox on Putnam Avenue. Open the top door, and slide your envelope all the way to the back of the box, where it will fall into the locked area. Thank you, as always, for your support of this ministry.

Do you need a mask?
We know of a handful of members who are making masks. If you need a mask, please contact the church office, and we can put you in contact with our mask-makers. (304-562-5903)

Would you like a set of offering envelopes?
Please contact the church office if you would like us to prepare a set of undated offering envelopes for your household (304-562-5903, or office@forrestburdette.com). We will mail the set to you.
