 E-Connection

 July 8, 2019

By the time you read this article I will have preached my first sermon and at least gotten a few more names and faces connected. I realize that I am new to most of you and that there is much for me to learn about the church, its ministries, and you the congregation. While much will be learned in the coming days, I want you to know that as your pastor I look forward to getting to know you and serve with you in ministry.
Perhaps this article is also a good place for me to share with you my heart for ministry. I became a Christian at the age of 14 when I attended a revival meeting at my home church, Emma Chapel UMC. Between my junior and senior year of college I accepted my calling to ordained ministry. Somehow it seems that several others knew I was being called before I did, but once I embraced my calling there was no turning back.
Shortly after embracing my call, I was asked to preach at a church near Pinch, West Virginia. While being asked to preach made me feel quite nervous because it was something so new, I somehow made it through and asked the Lord that night that if this was truly what He wanted me to do then show me a sign. When the sermon was finished two people accepted Christ, and that was all the sign I needed.
In my heart to this very day, I still want to lead others to Christ, and more than that, make disciples who will get involved in ministry and lead others to Christ as well.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve here at Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist Church. As we work together and look to the future, God has great things in store for us. If we are willing to follow God's Spirit in all we do, we will become the beneficiaries of countless blessings.

God Bless!

YOUTH 2019 National Convention
Sixth-12th grade youth and their leaders will gather in Kansas City, Missouri, this Wednesday through next Sunday, to attend the "LOVE WELL" National Gathering of UMC Youth (visit online at youth2019.com). Activities will include discipleship, worship, Bible study, service opportunities, and life-changing fun! Participants will be given inspiration, support, and challenges to grow authentically as a world-changing disciple of Jesus Christ.
The group will gather around "Heart Verses" Romans 12:9-10: Love others well, and don't hide behind a mask; love authentically. Despise evil; pursue what is good as if your life depends on it. Live in true devotion to one another, loving each other as sisters and brothers. Be first to honor others by putting them first. (The Voice)
Please hold all participants and leaders in prayer during this quadrennial event. The West Virginia delegation, including our folks, leaves for KC this Tuesday evening.

4-Week Summer Small Group Starts 7/10
Join a new, 4-week summer small group starting this Wednesday evening, July 10, at 6:30, and running through July 31.  The title is "Where did I come from? What am I? Where am I going?", based on a painting by Paul Gauguin. We will explore the answers to these questions, comparing and contrasting modern scientific understanding and the Bible. This class will be taught by Chris Clark, in Room 225W (upstairs in the new building).
