July 27, 2020

Life is still happening.
While many think that during a pandemic, the world has lost all of its hope and has been put to a standstill, one needs to turn off the TV from time to time and look around at what's happening. The Church is very much alive, God is very much still in control, and the family of God is still operating and as welcoming as ever. I've been privileged, during this pandemic, to witness and/or be a part of several weddings over the past few months. It's been an honor to see so many wonderful unions and the joining together of families in the presence of God. God's family is also continuing to grow, as we are in the midst of our delayed-Confirmation class on Sunday evenings. We've had a great group of young women who are ready to study and learn more about what it means to be a Christian and to be a part of the family of God. Along with some wonderful mentors, this class is scheduled to finish up in a few weeks with the hopes of soon celebrating with the congregation as we not only celebrate and/or remember their baptism, but as we confirm them in their faith. What a way to end the summer of 2020.
Jeremy Daniels, Associate Pastor
Director of Youth & Young Adult Ministries
Congratulations to Jimmy Conaway and Candi Rickert, who were united in Christian marriage on Saturday, July 25, at DelMonaco Winery in Baxter, TN. The ceremony was officiated by Pastor Jeremy Daniels. Our prayers are with the couple as they begin their marriage!
In Loving Memory
Christian sympathy is extended to Jackie Raines upon the death of her husband Russell "Rusty" Harold Raines (11/14/1931-7/24/2020). Many will remember the Raines as former members of Forrest Burdette. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 29, at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane, with Don Gatewood officiating. Burial will follow at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. Friends may visit the family an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Rusty and Jackie had recently moved. You may send your condolences to Jackie at: 1204 Nature Walk Boulevard SW, Huntsville, Alabama, 35824.
Young Adult Cook Out!
Young Adults, we are having a cook out at Pastor Jeremy's on Friday, July 31st! Bring a side dish, and come hang out with us this Friday evening, starting at 6:30 p.m. (5139 Briar Rd, Cross Lanes)!
Summer Confirmation Classes
Our youth Confirmation class will continue to safely meet on Sunday evenings (8/2 and 8/9 are the remaining classes) from 6:30-8:30 p.m., in the upstairs youth rooms, 219 and 225A.
Update on the Citywide Yard Sale
The City of Hurricane is still promoting Saturday, August 8, 2020, as the annual Citywide Yard Sale. Our parking lot spaces are available to the community at $10 per space. Spaces will not be assigned; the earliest people to show up on the 8th will get their pick of spaces. This rental is a fund raiser of the United Methodist Women.
     The difference in this year's sale is that the building will be closed, and the UMW will not be serving food and beverages, a decision which was made due to the ongoing pandemic. Those who are interested in reserving one or more parking spaces should contact the church office (304-562-5903;
Please RSVP for In-Person Worship
Remember to call or email the church to reserve a spot at one of our in-person worship services each week. Services are offered Sundays at 10:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m . Please contact the office by Friday afternoon for Sunday reservations. (304-562-5903,
Fundraising Opportunity for Heart + Hand!
Donations for a Forrest Burdette, FBUth, and FBKids logos face mask (gaiter style) will go toward the purchase of a free little library at Heart + Hand Thrift Store, just like the one we have at Forrest Burdette! Any funds raised over the amount needed will go toward the purchase of new books to be shared. $10 suggested donation. Masks are available in the office during the week or on Sundays in the Narthex.
Remember the Cupboard
The Christian Community Cupboard has continued to serve our community throughout this pandemic. Please remember them when shopping. Especially needed from Forrest Burdette are canned peas and canned carrots.
Live Stream Tech Volunteers Needed
To help continue our Facebook-Live presence for our 10:30 a.m. worship services, we need several volunteers to train and learn the process to help this outreach. We are blessed with the technology to be able to reach others for Christ in this new way. Please consider being a part of this team! Please contact Karen in the office or Pastor Jeremy.
