July 20, 2020

In Mark 4:26-29, there is recorded a parable that only Mark provides. It has been called the Parable of the Growing Seed. As a farmer I find this parable quite interesting. Here the farmer scatters the seed on the ground, and whether the farmer is awake or asleep, the seed sprouts grow. Over time that seed produces a stalk, then the head, and then the full kernel in the head. Then, when the grain is ripe, the farmer puts the sickle to it and harvests the crop.
This parable describes the mystery of the Gospel message. So often when God's Word is shared, good things come of it. Perhaps a life is redeemed or a broken heart is mended. When God's Word is shared, people become inspired, encouraged, or perhaps the Word even reshapes our priorities.
I can't explain any of this. Just as I can't explain how a single seed can produce so much more at harvest time, I can't explain how God's Word can so change our lives. Yet, it does! God's Word is filled with power. I can't explain how God does so much with a few words, but I do know this much: God's Word is transformative. These are living, life changing, life giving words. How does God do it? I'll just have to ask some day, but for now we should all share God's Word whenever and wherever we can because even a few words now will one day produce a great harvest.

Yours in Christ,
Ed

Congratulations!
Congratulations to Jamie Herman and Tyler Bellomy, who were united in Christian marriage on Saturday, July 18, at the Grants' farm in Southside. The ceremony was officiated by Pastor Ed Grant. Our prayers are with the couple as they begin their marriage!

Fundraising Opportunity for Heart + Hand!
Donations for our new Forrest Burdette, FBUth, and FBKids logos face mask (gaiter style) will go toward the purchase of a free little library at Heart + Hand Thrift Store, just like the one we have at Forrest Burdette! Any funds raised over the amount needed will go toward the purchase of new books to be shared. $10 suggested donation. Masks are available in the office during the week or on Sundays in the Narthex.

Live Stream Tech Volunteers Needed
To help continue our Facebook-Live presence for our 10:30 a.m. worship services moving forward, we are going to need several volunteers to train and learn the process to help this outreach. We are blessed with the technology to be able to reach others for Christ in this new way. Please consider being a part of this team! Please contact Karen in the office or Pastor Jeremy.

Your Prayers & Thanksgivings
We welcome your regular prayers and continued giving. This is the perfect time to learn about our online giving option. Click here to access the online giving instructions from the Forrest Burdette website . Your continued giving to the church during this time, as you are able, is important for us to keep paying our expenses. Thank you so much for sending your offerings! If not online, then please mail your regular offering to 2848 Putnam Avenue, Hurricane WV 25526. To save a stamp, you may deposit your offering in our locked mailbox on Putnam Avenue. Open the top door, and slide your envelope all the way to the back of the box, where it will fall into the locked area. Thank you, as always, for your support of this ministry.
