 October 14, 2019

We're about halfway through October, and there's still so much to come! Each Wednesday the kids are practicing for their upcoming Christmas show. This year we're going tropical, and you won't want to miss "Away In A Mango"! Mark your calendars for Dec. 8!
This coming Sunday, October 20, is Children's Sabbath. We take time to remember the children and youth who are in need of our help in our communities and worldwide. Please remember to pray for and support our children through our various missions: BackPack Buddies, Community Cupboard, Operation Christmas Child, Angel Tree, Putnam Shoes for Children, Thanksgiving and Christmas Baskets, to name a few.
On October 30 we are having our annual Fall Harvest party. We're bringing all the fun fall activities to Forrest Burdette! We're going to have tons of fun and learn that "Jesus Brings S'More Joy"! Join us!

Pumpkin Carving & Hot Dog Roast
Pastor Ed & Brenda Grant invite the congregation to their farm for a church wide event next Sunday, October 20th . We will gather at 2:00 p.m., rain or shine! Hot dogs will be served; please see the sign up boards in the Narthex to choose what you can bring to share. Bring a pumpkin if you would like to carve it during the afternoon! We will also have a brief devotional time.
Directions to the Farm: Take US 35 North toward Pt. Pleasant. At the Buffalo bridge, US 35 becomes a two lane highway. Continue on US 35 North for approximately 10 miles to the community of South Side. Turn right onto South Side Lane (a gravel road across from Harmony Baptist Church). Follow South Side Lane until you reach the second driveway on the left, and follow the driveway to the white brick house and you will have arrived. If you are using GPS, the address is 2104 South Side Lane.
** The church vans will be leaving Forrest Burdette at 1:30 p.m., for anyone who wants or needs a ride to the farm. **

Operation Christmas Child
Shoeboxes are available at the Connection Center. Families will experience the joy of packing their own box. Pray as you shop, asking for the items you choose to be what the child needs. Enjoy the leading of the spirit as you personalize your gift that may transform a child's life.
Yesterday, in the service, Rebecca Parker-Moore reminded us that giving a simple gift of a shoebox gives a child, a friend, a family, and a community the opportunity to know Jesus. Shipping expenses of $9 a box includes all the shipping from local to international, as well as training for the Christian teachers who will have first-hand contact with the children receiving boxes. The Greatest Gift is the paper book each child receives with their box along with a presentation of the gospel before opening their box.
In some communities "The Greatest Journey" (TGJ) discipleship course is available. It has yielded incredible results with 4 children every minute choosing to become followers of Christ! TGJ is an additional $6 which includes 12 lessons, a graduation ceremony, and bible for each graduate. This year in addition to sending boxes, we desire to send TGJ.
On Oct. 26 we complete the packing of 150 boxes at the Packing Party and ask you to finish well as a congregation by covering the shipping costs. In addition, we ask that you give sacrificially so that children may take The Greatest Journey course. Consider writing a check to FBUMC and in the memo note whether it is for OCC- shipping or OCC- TGJ. What a blessing to be part of this journey!
