This Sunday, This Week
This Sunday's Focus
Today’s gospel combines a saying that makes many of us uncomfortable with a story we find comforting. Jesus’ saying on divorce is another of his rejections of human legislation in favor of the original intent of God’s law. Jesus’ rebuke of the disciples who are fending off the children should challenge us as well. What does it mean to receive the kingdom of God as a child does?
1st Sunday Fellowship
This coming Sunday is the first Sunday of the month, so please join us for "1st Sunday Fellowship" between the services. Come for the donuts(or bring our own creation - contributions are always welcome) and stay for the fellowship! Chat with old friends and meet new people. All are welcome!

Parish Life Team
Blessing of the Animals
Attention all creatures great and small! Every day we receive a special kind of unconditional love from our pets. Just as we receive blessings for ourselves, don’t our other family members deserve them, too? Sunday, October 7th at
4:00 PM we will observe a beloved Advent Church tradition, the annual BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS.

We will join together (rain or shine) with our faithful companions for a lively service of blessing and thanksgiving. Bring lawn chairs or a blanket. Because there continues to be a need for cat and dog food assistance at the local LSS food pantries, those attending the service are asked to bring a small bag or can of cat or dog food. Members of the congregation are encouraged to make a similar donation.

Please join us for this spirited celebration of all God’s beautiful creation!!
Isabel's Quilters
Blessing of the Quilts will be at both services on October 7
Adult Sunday School Class Series
This is a fun and practical class geared to help us claim our faith and our stories AND then proclaim the good news of Christ to others! This week's video ( please view BEFORE Sunday ) is entitled "How to Share your faith with Someone". We hope you'll check out the video below and consider joining us for discussion and practice on Sunday!

Get Involved
Bell Choir

We are looking for individuals to play bells. The ability to read music makes it easier, but is not necessary. We rehearse on Thursday nights at 6:40 p.m. Contact Jean Pontious at 614-975-6205 with any questions.
Fall Church Cleanup
Please join the youth and their parents for a fall church cleanup night on October 21st at 4:30 PM. We will be removing trees and brush along the tree line, cleaning up the labyrinth, leaf removal, flower bed cleanup, and other small projects. Please dress appropriately, bring gloves, and your favorite yard tool. We will also have a fire for roasting hotdogs and s'mores! Email or call Mike Deeter to volunteer or for questions.  m_deeter@hotmail.com or 614-315-2604.

Free Prayer with PAL Wednesdays
Each Wednesday from about noon - 2:00pm Pastor Aaron goes just down the road from AdventELC to Panera Bread on Tremont Road with an appetite for lunch and for sharing God's presence through prayer.

Anyone is welcome to share a prayer with Pastor through sitting down and praying on the spot or through written prayer requests on his tablet of paper or things directly messaged to him via social media.

If you get a chance, feel free to stop by!
Prayer Requests
We have a network of people at Advent who are committed to praying to God on behalf of others in need by lifting up specific requests, concerns, and emergency situations.
If you have such a request, please feel free to Email a prayer request to: prayers@adventelc.org

Donate Used Postage Stamps to Lutheran Social Services
Collectors buy, sell, and trade used postage stamps like any collectible item. The value of these stamps varies greatly based on factors such as the type or condition of the stamps. Nonprofit organizations take donated used stamps - also know as "charity" or "recycled" stamps - and sell them individually or in bulk direct/through auctions to stamp dealers or collectors to raise funds for various charitable programs.

What to do: Save stamps that have their perforations intact, are not too heavily canceled, and are not torn, cut, or stained. Leave at least 1/4 inch on each side of the stamp when cutting it from the envelope.

Place the stamps in the collection box located on the "Food Pantry" shelf in the Narthex.
Thanksgiving Ingathering
Watch for information to come regarding the Thanksgiving Ingathering. We will begin collecting the food bags on November 4 and continue through November 11, this year.

More information to come!
