Congregational President, Sister Eileen Marnien SSJ extended a warm welcome to all present. “Good morning and Happy Jubilee Day. On behalf of the Congregation, it is my great joy to welcome each of you: our sisters, who celebrate today, your families and friends and our brother priests.

We are thrilled to be gathered today to celebrate you, our Jubilarians, and your 80, 75, 70, and 60 years as Sisters of Saint Joseph. We are deeply grateful for the many ways each of you lives our mission with passion and joy.

Today we rejoice that 80 years ago in 1945 our sisters Catherine Reimer and Agnes Leona Arnold began an adventure of a lifetime as they embarked on their journey to Chestnut Hill to respond to God’s call to live and love as a Sister of Saint Joseph.

Five years later in 1950 they would be joined by Sisters Peg O’Connor, Mary Teresa Duffy, Catherine Maureen Larkin, Agnes Leonore Condy, Catherine Dolorine Fitzpatrick, Joan Gertrude Jaskel, Mary Corbett, Leonissa O’Brien, Grace Pino, Patricia McClure, Nancy Hilla and Pat Cashman.

In 1955 Sisters Pat Looney, Frances Pallozza, Catherine McConnell, Maryan Szarek, Anne Quirk, John Patrice, Mary Therese Toole, Marie Lewis, Dorothy Donovan, Joan Kathleen Gercke, Leanne Hess, Anna Regina Zink, Louise Kane, Anita Cecilia Mellon, Alice Boyle, Miriam Denis McConomy and Maria Rita Lannutti and Adrienne Bucci in 1965 would become their companions.

These are the sisters we celebrate today.

Sisters, throughout your years of loving and joyful service, you have taught hundreds of children, influenced young adults, comforted those who suffered, cared for the sick, fed the hungry, visited prisoners, welcomed immigrants, worked for justice, and prayed for peace.

These have been very full years for each of you, and your list of good works is endless. It’s simply amazing how you haven’t aged a bit!

Your commitment to our mission of unity, love, and service to our dear neighbor without distinction inspires all of us. You have made and continue to make a difference in our world. So today, dear sisters, we are delighted to celebrate you!

We trust that every minute of today will be filled with joy as you share memories and tell stories. May it also bring a deep realization that we, your sisters, are immensely grateful for your presence among us and for your example of loving service to God’s people. Thank you for blessing us. We look forward to journeying with you for many more years to come.

Happy Jubilee Sisters! Let our celebration begin!”

Bishop McDevitt Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony

Congratulations, Sister Mary Boyer SSJ

April 27, 2025

The Friends of Bishop McDevitt was organized when Bishop McDevitt High School was closed in June of 2021. One of our goals is honoring the history of Bishop McDevitt. To that end, each year since the closing we have held an annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

This year on April 27, Sister Mary Boyer SSJ has been selected as a Legend of Bishop McDevitt. This honor is given to someone who has had a profound impact on the Bishop McDevitt community and in Sister Mary's almost 30 years at McDevitt, she certainly impacted 1000s of Royal Lancers.

Congratulations, Mary!

Saint Joseph Villa

Monthly Service Project

The Villa hosts a monthly service project where sisters, residents, partners in mission and volunteers can put together double bags for our friends at Martha’s Marketplace.

Martha’s Choice Marketplace is the largest, most visited food pantry in Montgomery County. Its mission is to grow community through healthy and accessible food. Martha’s Choice serves more than 1,000 families and 3,500 individuals each month. They distribute over 1 million lbs. of food yearly. Martha’s provides clients with the dignity of shopping for the foods of their preference in a grocery store-like environment. They also provide a holistic approach to hunger prevention by providing education, and personal empowerment opportunities that recognize each person’s basic human needs and dignity. Martha’s also operates a community farm at the former St Gabrielle’s Hall.

Sponsored Ministries Spring Conference

Mount Saint Joseph Academy

May 1, 2025

Directors, staff members and board members from SSJ Sponsored Ministries gathered at Mount Saint Joseph Academy on May 1, 2025, for the Spring Conference— an afternoon of shared information, inspiration, and collaboration.

Sister Dolores Clerico SSJ offered a talk entitled, “Creating the Future: That All May Be One.” Sister Dolores reflected on the concept that the desire for all to be one is at the heart of God's design and on-going movement within all creation. This is the reality that grounds our sponsored works and impels us as partners in mission.

After Dolores’ presentation the participants moved into small groups for discussion. Together, they pondered the privilege and shared responsibility that is ours. We can make a difference in weaving a future full of hope for our world!
