Dear Members of Congregation Mishkan Or,

As we celebrate the light and hope of Chanukah, we write to share an important and heartfelt announcement about the journey ahead for Mishkan Or.

Please watch this Video Message from our Senior Rabbi Robert Nosanchuk.

At this time of year, we are reminded of the enduring strength of our community as we navigate change. It is in this spirit that our Rabbi Robert Nosanchuk has shared with us his decision to retire from the congregational rabbinate during 2026, when he’ll mark 25 years as a rabbi, including 16 remarkable years in Cleveland.

A recent cancer survivor who reached remission in May, he says this is the right time to embrace what he calls “bonus time”—precious moments not to be taken for granted—and plan next chapters in his life.

We want to thank Rabbi Nosanchuk for extraordinary leadership and service. His vision, compassion, and tireless efforts have been instrumental in our exploration, visioning and shaping Mishkan Or and we are profoundly grateful for all he is doing in this formative time for our congregation.

Over the coming year, Rabbi Nosanchuk will remain fully committed and actively engaged as Inaugural Senior Rabbi and Will & Jan Sukenik Chair in Rabbinics, working alongside our clergy team, dedicated staff, and Board of Directors to build the strong foundation we have created.

In the coming weeks, the Board will launch a thoughtful and inclusive search for our next Senior Rabbi, beginning with appointing a Search Committee. We will share more details about the timeline and next steps as we move forward.

We are sure you may have questions many of which are answered in this FAQ sheet. As we navigate a transition together, let us be inspired by the light of Chanukah and draw unity, strength, and renewal.

Thank you for your ongoing commitment to our community. If you have questions or thoughts, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.

With gratitude and hope,

Julie Raskind and Bruce Goodman,

Co-Presidents

Congregation Mishkan Or
