November 2, 2026

Dear Friends,

Ordinarily at this time of year, we send out a letter about our traditional program to provide a Thanksgiving meal to the families of the children we serve at Backpack Buddies. Sadly, there is nothing ordinary, or traditional or even normal about the current situation.

Food insecurity has become a crisis in our local community. Our Backpack Buddies team had planned to distribute large boxes of healthy food items to the families we serve for Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, Second Harvest, where we purchase 90% of our food, has little or at times none of the items we have historically been able to purchase from them.

In the face of that reality, we decided to give each family a $50 grocery gift card. We currently serve roughly 120 children, so the total cost for the cards will be $6,000.

I am writing to ask if your family is in a position to help us raise some portion of the $6,000 we need. You can sponsor one or more families for $50 each. If you would like to participate, please use the button below to make your commitment or call Tricia at the synagogue (912-352-4737) and let her know how much you would like to donate. Your account at the synagogue can be billed.

All of us at Backpack Buddies are deeply grateful for all the support your family has given us over the years. We could not do this without you. Thank you in advance for whatever contribution you can make to this undertaking.

Wishing you and your family a happy, healthy and peaceful Thanksgiving holiday.

Warmest regards,

Your Backpack Buddies Team
