Pro Tip from Your Peers

Peer to Peer Review

Feeling frustrated with peer-to-peer reviews? Some members in the Ortho Billing Collaborative Listserv have proposed a new approach. They recommend requesting the reviewer’s full name, specialty, NPI, and the state where they are licensed. Then, inform the reviewer their name will be documented in the patient's chart as part of the medical decision-making process, if they choose to deny the requested care.

Listserv members regularly using these steps reported some reviewers may refuse to continue with the peer review and that, over time, they've seen a reduction in the overall number of peer-to-peer requests.

The ‘Pro Tip from Your Peers’ section serves as a resource for general advice from fellow members and the sharing of personal member experiences. You are urged to seek professional guidance and advice for specific, individual situations.
