Fifth Sunday after the Epiphany

FUNERAL SERVICE FOR
THE REV. CN. MALCOLM NĀEA CHUN
|
The funeral service for the
Reverend Canon Malcolm Nāea Chun will take place on Saturday, February 23, 2019, 10:00 AM, in the Cathedral of St. Andrew, Honolulu.
Clergy are invited to vest (cassock/surplice or alb and shite stoles) and join the procession (please meet in the Manger at 9:00 AM to vest).
In a special announcement to the Diocese dated January 31, 2019 (
HERE
), Bishop Robert Fitzpatrick recalled the 2018 installation of Chun as an Honorary Canon of the Cathedral of St. Andrew, filling "The Right Reverend Edwin Lani Hanchett Chair."
"The person filling the Hanchett canonship must have faithfully served the Diocese of Hawaiʻi and the broader community, giving special care to Native Hawaiians," noted the Bishop.
The announcement also included the citation read by the Rev. Cn. Moki Hino at his formal installation, which spoke of Canon Chun's many accomplishments and awards.
A prolific writer and author of numerous books on traditional and contemporary Hawaiian beliefs, Canon Chun's legacy will forever be preserved in his extensive research, writings and treasured contributions in the Hawaiian culture.

REMINDER: BE WARY OF ONLINE SCAMMERS
Recently, a spate of e-mail accounts of clergy and other support staff in the Diocese have been hacked or been subjected to scammers. A number of people have reported receiving emails with malicious claims or are asking for money or other forms of support from clergy (and even the Bishop). Always be aware and cautious about any emails asking for things or making claims that just don't sound right. If you are unsure, double-check with the sender in question and NEVER open attachments or click on links contained in questionable e-mails. We are also taking steps to step up security on Diocesan accounts.

CATHEDRAL OF ST. ANDREW ANNOUNCES 2019 ALI'I SUNDAY & EVENSONG SCHEDULE
|
The Cathedral has released its schedule of Ali'i Sunday services and Evensongs for 2019, and can be viewed on their website
HERE.
The Ali‘i Sundays honor members of the royal family of the Kingdom of Hawai‘i, with particular emphasis on King Kamehameha IV and Queen Emma, as they were the founders of the Cathedral. On each of the Ali‘i Sundays the Hawaiian Royal Societies and other ahahui (Hawaiian clubs) join us for the 8:00 AM Hawaiian service, and the front pews are reserved for them. A special reception follows. Their processions in and out add an extra note of pageantry to the Hawaiian service.
The Evensongs occur monthly with the Cathedral Choir, facilitated by a special grant from the Orvis Foundation. These typically honor special liturgical feasts such as Epiphany or Saints days, and follow the traditional Anglican Evensong liturgy, sometimes with special guest musicians. All are at 5:30 PM on Sundays, with the exception of Kirkin o’ the Tartan, which celebrates the Cathedral’s St. Andrew’s day on a Friday evening, with the Saint Andrew Society of Hawaii (SASH), and features a dinner, Scottish dancing, bagpipes, and more.

On the
Contemplative Outreach website
, it states "Centering Prayer is a receptive method of silent prayer that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer, prayer in which we experience God's presence within us, closer than breathing, closer than thinking, closer than consciousness itself. This method of prayer is both a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship."

Built around a curriculum of powerful documentary films, videos, and readings, this 10-part series considers some of the major chapters of the United States of America’s history of race and racism. It focuses on Indigenous, Black, Latino, and Asian American histories as they intersect with European American histories. Participants are invited to peel away the layers that have contributed to challenges and divides in the present day – all with a deep foundation in faith and love.
