This issue's header features Palm Sunday at Holy Apostle's Pop-Up Eucharist service in Lincoln Park, Hilo. With the church currently in transition, the Rev. Good Friday
Almighty God, we pray you graciously to behold this your
family, for whom our Lord Jesus Christ was willing to be
betrayed, and given into the hands of sinners, and to suffer
death upon the cross; who now lives and reigns with you and
the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.

He served in this Diocese as the Assistant to the Rector at the Church of the Holy Nativity, Aina Haina (1977-1979); Vicar of Christ Memorial Church, Kilauea (1979-1981); Rector of All Saints Church, Kapa'a (1979-1997); and as in various capacities (interim, assigned supply, priest-in-charge, supply) all about the Diocese (Grace, Epiphany, Calvary, etc.). While remaining canonically resident in Hawaiʻi, Bob also served as the Rector of All Souls' Church, Chatan, on Okinawa, Japan (1997-2003). Bob was an officer in the Air Force from 1962 to 1974.
A memorial service is planned to celebrate Bob's life for Saturday, May 6, 2017, at 10:00 AM, Calvary Episcopal Church, 45-435 Aumoku Street, Kaneohe (O'ahu).
In lieu of flowers, Bob asked that monetary gifts be given to Calvary Episcopal Church, 45-435 Aumoku Street, Kaneohe, HI 96744
ALMIGHTY AND ETERNAL GOD, to whom there is never any prayer made without hope of mercy, be merciful to the soul of your faithful servant, Robert, being departed from this world in the confession of your Holy Name that he and all the departed may be welcomed into the company of thy saints, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Rest eternal grant him, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon him. May our brother, Robert, rest in peace. Amen.

St. John the Baptist's New Saturday FREE Store!
Donations Welcome!
Fr. Kaleo Patterson, Vicar of both St. John the Baptist in Waianae, and St. Stephen's in Wahiawa, has launched another outreach program called Saturday Free Store - House of Blessings.
The Free Store, which is exactly what it sounds like, offers clothing and household goods for free, and folks are invited to share and/or swap items too. The event is held quarterly and was brought about in an effort to reach out to the families of Maili who live in the transitional and affordable housing projects, and the 300+ families at the Waianae Boat Harbor.
Patterson has even enlisted the help of the many halfway houses for men in the area such as Makana Ministries, to assist with the collection of clothes and household items, and are playing an important role in the Saturday event set-up.
Pictured above, church member "Shorty" flashes a shaka in front of one of the Saturday Free Store flyers posted at the Waianae Boat Harbor, and at right, helpers from Makana Ministries at the April 8 event.
The next Saturday Free Store event will be held on July 8. Donations for the Free Store are solicited quarterly from local churches and families, but anyone can donate items at any time by contacting Patterson at kaleop@me.com.

Episcopal Veterans Fellowship Resource
For churches and people desiring to reach out to the veterans in your community, the Episcopal Veterans Fellowship (EVF) can be a valuable resource. The EVF equips Christians for missional ministry to veterans through prayer, hospitality and reconciliation, and offer educational workshops, consulting and coaching so churches can reach out with God's love to veterans.
The Episcopal Veterans Fellowship (EVF) was born in 2009 in a resolution from General Convention to "ecourage the establishment of an Episcopal Veterans Fellowship for each diocese." In 2014, with a blessing from the Rt. Rev. Andy Doyle and a grant from the Episcopal Evangelism Society, a group of veterans gathered at St. David's Episcopal Church for a Pilgrimage of Remembrance and Reconciliation. Under the stained-glass window depicting St. Martin of Tours, the patron saint of veterans. They prayed for their friends who died in war and homecoming. By 2015, four parishes in the Diocese of Texas hosted EVF groups, a testament to the enthusiasm and dedication of those first members.

PREVIOUSLY ANNOUNCED EVENT REMINDERS:

Coming in May
Stewardship University: Stewardship & Beyond
This year's annual Stewardship University will take place on Friday May 5 (clergy only) and Saturday, May 6 (clergy and lay), at the Parish of St. Clement's Parish Hall in Honolulu. Registration begins at 8:30 AM and the class ends at 3:00 PM on both days.
(Note: Correction in times.)
This year's theme is "How Clergy and Lay Leaders Can Create Stronger Congregations." Over the past few decades, the culture in which we live has become increasingly indifferent to religious expression. Religious leaders who garner public attention often preach a gospel of exclusion, rather than all souls being God's children.
The result is that ministry in any form, for clergy and lay leaders alike, is exponentially more difficult than in years past.
This year's Stewardship University will be led by Michael Durall, who has authored numerous books on congregational organization, development and stewardship. He co-authored Making the Pledge Drive Obsolete with the Rev. Cn. Timothy Dombek, who led our previous Stewardship University events. His most recent book is Don't Wait Until the Pastor Leaves: Planning for Ministerial Transition Helps Ensure that One Successful Minister Follows Another.
Clergy and lay leaders are encouraged to sign up as teams to strengthen their stewardship programs. Participants will gain a common understanding of stewardship possibilities and reap the benefits all year long!
For more information and to register, click HERE.
