This issue's header photo is of the many volunteers at St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church in Honolulu, who woke up early Thanksgiving morning to whip up a delicious turkey meal with all the trimmings for the houseless in their community. They are just one of the many congregations in the Diocese we give thanks for, who came together on Thanksgiving to prepare and serve meals for others. Amen!

Proper 29
Almighty and everlasting God, whose will it is to restore all things in your well-beloved Son, the King of kings and Lord of lords: Mercifully grant that the peoples of the earth, divided and enslaved by sin, may be freed and brought together under his most gracious rule; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
Amen.

New Advent Resource Available
December 3, 2017, marks the beginning of Advent, and The Episcopal Church is making available a newly developed Advent resource to help Episcopalians everywhere to take up Jesus' ministry of reconciliation and healing.
Every congregation will soon receive in the mail
Preparing to Become the Beloved Community
, a multi-fold poster and resource pack with prayer, reflections and activities for each week of Advent. The resources can also be downloaded
HERE
.
Preparing builds on the Becoming Beloved Com
munity
vision document and resources
, which Presiding Bishop Michael Curry and President of the House of Deputies the Rev. Gay Clark Jennings and their supporting officers introduced earlier this year. The document lays out the Episcopal Church's long-term commitment to racial healing, reconciliation and justice.
"During Advent, Christians focus on how much we need Jesus to bear light, healing and hope in a broken world," noted the Rev. Canon Stephanie Spellers, the Presiding Bishop's Canon for Evangelism, Reconciliation and Creation Care. "This is a mysterious, vulnerable time. We're opening to Christ. We're opening to different neighbors and strangers who are Christ among us. We hope these resources meet the real hunger among Episcopalians to live like Jesus Movement people."
Throughout Advent, an Episcopal Church social media campaign will also stir hope, reflection and action around racial reconciliation; join or follow using the hashtag #adventbeloved.

Special Evensong at the Cathedral to Commemorate Pearl Harbor Anniversary
The Cathedral Choir will offer a special Evensong service to commemorate the 76th Anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor. At the service, a cross made from the hull of the USS Arizona from St. George's Chapel at Pearl Harbor will be dedicated in its new home in the Cathedral sanctuary. The service will begin at 5:30 PM in the Cathedral.
In a message to the Diocese, Bishop Robert Fitzpatrick encourages members in the Diocese who are able, to attend this important event:
"Because of issues around the loss of the lease on the land, St. George's Episcopal Church, Pearl Harbor, closed over two years ago. That Church was originally built as a memorial to those who died on December 7, 1941.
A new Memorial to those who died on December 7, 1941 has been installed in the Cathedral of St. Andrew (see photo). The artist has included the cross that was embedded in the altar at St. George's Church. The metal of the cross originally came from USS Arizona. This Memorial will also be dedicated in thanksgiving to all those who worshipped at St. George's Church through the years. The new Diocesan Pearl Harbor Memorial will be dedicated on Sunday, December 10, 2017, 5:30 PM, during Evensong at the Cathedral of St. Andrew, Honolulu. Members of the Diocese are encouraged to attend.
Many in the Diocese and of our friends in the community had a connection to St. George's Church and especially so when stationed with the military in Hawaiʻi. That is true even for those who live on neighbor islands. It is important to me to get the word out as broadly as possible.
I especially hope for a good representation from the clergy and lay leaders of the Diocese who live on Oahu. This is an important event in our Diocesan ʻOhana.
"
The photo of the new memorial shows the cross with waves of koa wood from McCandless Ranch on the Big Island.

This year's annual Queen Lili'uokalani Hookuikahi will be taking place at Kawaiahao Church in Honolulu on Sunday, January 14, 2018, at 6:00 PM.
The date of the event represents a dark time in Hawaiian history when Queen Lili'uokalani was overthrown, but is now being recognized as a day of reconciliation and hope that focuses on the Queen's courage and conviction for non-violence that has been an example and legacy to her people.

What's Happening in The Episcopal Church? Announcements from around The Episcopal Church & beyond |
Webinar: December 7
Grant Process, Application Info Available for Young Adult and Campus Ministries
It's time to start the process of discerning whether to apply for a 2018 Young Adult and Campus Ministry Grants, which provide funding for dioceses, congregations, and community college/tribal college/university campuses for an Episcopal ministry (or ecumenical ministry with an Episcopal presence).
The online application will open on January 2, 2018. However, information is now available and a webinar has been slated to assist in discerning the application process.
"We hope this process is an invitation for communities to consider how Young Adult and Campus Ministry in the Episcopal Church can minister with young adults both on and off college campuses, including Community Colleges and Tribal College Campuses, non-traditional degree programs, in the military, and those who are not in college," explained the Rev. Shannon Kelly, Episcopal Church Officer for Young Adult and Campus Ministry. "This process is designed to help discern where and how God is calling your community to serve young adults and whether now is the right time to apply for a grant."
The grants are for the 2018-19 academic year. A total of $138,000 is available for the 2018-2019 cycle, with a total of $400,000 available for the triennium.

Application Deadline is December 15!
Episcopal Evangelism Grants Available for Local and Regional Efforts
The application process is now open for the new Episcopal Evangelism Grants Program, designed to fund local and regional evangelism efforts in the Episcopal Church.
"This program will encourage our whole Church to share resources, catalyze imagination, and ultimately cultivate a network of evangelists who can learn from each other and connect with each other," explained the Rev. Canon Susan Brown Snook, Chair of both the Episcopal Evangelism Grants Committee and the Executive Council Committee on Local Mission and Ministry.
"Evangelism isn't some scary practice only 'other' Christians do," said the Rev. Canon Stephanie Spellers, Presiding Bishop's Canon for Evangelism, Reconciliation and Creation Care, and a member of the Grants Committee. "Evangelism is the heart of Christian life, and we hope this program will light a fire and connect Episcopalians who are creating unique, authentically Episcopal ways of seeking, naming and celebrating Jesus' loving presence everywhere."
