Mark your calendars for the MCS Women’s Bible study on  Hebrews: The Nearness of King Jesus , by Lisa Harper.

The book of Hebrews is a sermon for a specific people and culture but is also relevant for us today, reminding us to continue walking toward Jesus regardless of our culture or circumstances. Jesus is not a faraway God, but our redeemer who lovingly draws near to us.

Chapel Recap
Our Elementary students welcomed Mr. Michael Avila, Mariners Church Junior High Experience Director, as the guest chapel speaker to begin the 2020 new year! Mr. Avila shared the story of King David and the prophet Nathan found in II Samuel 12:3-4.

Challenged by Nathan about his actions that hurts others, David’s heart became broken over his sin. David asked God for forgiveness and a “fresh start.” Mr. Avila gave the students time to prayerfully reflect on something that they would like to incorporate as a fresh start in their lives this year.

Chapel Recap
Pastor Tim Celek, and husband of our beloved Sue Celek, proved to be the perfect Chapel speaker coming off of a 2 week break for our middle school students! Pastor Tim challenged every person in the room with whether we are using the mirror we hold to reflect ourselves or reflect Jesus to the world around us. The biggest enemy we face in our lives is self-centerdness, and it’s hard to reflect the Son when we are focused on ourselves. He reminded us that worship is not what happens with music before and after a message at Church or Chapel, but that worship is what we do with the minutes of our lives. Worship is our conversations with others, our thoughts, our actions, what we choose to do with our personal time, and who we are giving credit to. Thank you Pastor Tim, for starting the New Year with that message to build upon going forward
