Flu season is definitely upon us!  Influenza B cases are popping up in large numbers all over the area. To ensure our students remain as healthy as possible, we are asking for your help. If your child has a fever, sore throat or body ache, please keep them home and consult your doctor as needed. Other symptoms of the flu can include excessive fatigue, headache, vomiting and diarrhea.  Always keep your child at home when they have had a fever, vomiting or diarrhea. Students must be symptom and fever free for 24 hours before returning to school without the use of fever reducing medication.

Mark your calendars for the MCS Women’s Bible study on  Hebrews: The Nearness of King Jesus , by Lisa Harper.

The book of Hebrews is a sermon for a specific people and culture but is also relevant for us today, reminding us to continue walking toward Jesus regardless of our culture or circumstances. Jesus is not a faraway God, but our redeemer who lovingly draws near to us.

Chapel Recap
Our Elementary students welcomed Mr. Michael Avila, Mariners Church Junior High Experience Director, as the guest chapel speaker to begin the 2020 new year! Mr. Avila shared the story of King David and the prophet Nathan found in II Samuel 12:3-4.

Challenged by Nathan about his actions that hurts others, David’s heart became broken over his sin. David asked God for forgiveness and a “fresh start.” Mr. Avila gave the students time to prayerfully reflect on something that they would like to incorporate as a fresh start in their lives this year.

Chapel Recap
We were pleased to have Mariners Youth Pastor Michael Aviles as our Chapel speaker this week! As we enter into the new semester, Michael spoke to our students about fresh starts. He used David as an example of a someone who loved God, but needed a fresh start after making some poor choices. We serve a God whose mercies are new every morning, and a fresh start can happen at any time. Our God is so good!
Middle School Bake Sale
A massive thank you goes out to the 7th grade families who answered the call to bring in treats for our Bake Sale! Our first day of the Bake Sale yielded $518 in profits to go toward Kiana Giunta’s Difference Maker initiative to purchase Bibles for sick people in hospitals. With items left to sell for a second day, we are excited to see how what our total amount raised will be, and how many Bibles this Bake Sale will allow us to purchase and gift to sick people who are hungry for the hope and promise that the Word of God brings!

Graduation will be here before we know it, and we are excited for this important moment and experience for your child and family. If you have attended a MCS graduation in the past you will recall one of the beautiful pieces of the ceremony is the 8th grade graduation video that includes a picture of each graduate at a young age and now. It’s a favorite piece of the ceremony for students and parents alike.

It is now time to begin preparing that video and for that we need your pictures! Please reference the message you received from Katie Niles for important details regarding the two pictures that must be submitted as well as the parameters for the size, quality, and criteria for picture choice.
