THIS WEEK AT EEC

Dearest family in Christ,

This week we will enter the sacred Triduum (three days): Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday. It's a journey we take together practicing and strengthening our Christian faith. We share the emotional and spiritual highs and lows, ritually reenacting the events that are the foundation of our faith.

As followers of Jesus, we do not avoid betrayal, or injustice, or death - in all its many forms. We go willingly as Jesus did, certain that the redeeming love of God is already at work transforming us and the world. In that certainty we are the vessels by which new life in Jesus Christ is made real and apparent... on earth as it is in heaven.

We wait in the discomfort together, knowing that the seeds of new life God has planted in us during Lent are ready to break forth from the womb of darkness in which they took root and reach out toward the light of Christ that is rekindled at the Great Vigil of Easter. The Easter light is all the more dazzling for those who emerge from the darkness and discomfort of these three sacred days.

God bless us all as we make this pilgrimage together.

Holy Week and Easter Offerings

During Holy Week and Easter Emmanuel collects for a few different offerings. It can be a bit confusing as to what each offering supports and the meaning behind them. To help provide some clarity, below are explanations for these different offerings and how to give:

Maundy Thursday Offering:

On this night, we remember and relive Jesus instituting the sacrament of Communion – the holy food of his own body and blood that continually nourishes God’s holy people for our mission on earth in his name. It is also the night Jesus gave us the command to love one another as he loved us. We share this holy food each and every Sunday, “in remembrance” of him. Our Offertory collection will, therefore, be directed to our Food Center to nourish others as we are nourished by our Savior. To give, click here.

Good Friday Offering:

It’s an Episcopal tradition for churches to send their Good Friday alms to the church in Jerusalem and the Presiding Bishop reminds us how important that is right now with the continuing violence plaguing them. We will be sending our Good Friday offering to the Anglican Province of Jerusalem and Middle East so that they can serve ALL those who are suffering in that region. Thank you for giving generously. To give, click here.

You can read more about the tradition of this offering here.

Easter Offering:

Each year Emmanuel's Faith in Action (FIA) leadership decides where the Easter offering will go. This year FIA has selected the Faith Christian Church of India (FCCI). FIA will also match any Easter offering money and donate it to Welcome Neighbor for immigrant resettlement (match up to $1,000). To give, click here.

FCCI was founded in 2017 by Rev. Dr. Clive Samson & Rev. Seelam Susanna Raj, as an inter-denominational Church, to become THE 1st and ONLY Tamil Church in St. Louis, eventually evolving to become THE 1st and ONLY Indian Church in St. Louis, with the largest Indian congregation present. Their mission and vision is to spread the love of our Christ, Jesus, to everyone, everywhere.

You can also find all of these donation links on our website's giving page. Just click on the Easter Offerings link.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - Easter Flower Delivery

On Palm Sunday, April 13th, we will deliver small flowers to parishioners who are unable to attend, those who had a death in the family this past year, those who may be ill or those who are having a difficult time of their life.

Your help is needed to make these deliveries! No RSVP required, just meet in the chapel after the 9:30am service this Sunday. There will be flowers with envelopes on tables in the chapel. Take as many as you are comfortable delivering.

DEADLINE! - Easter Festival Flowers and Music

Names for Thanksgiving or remembrance are due by Wednesday, April 16th. To have names added to the Easter bulletin, please fill out this form. Names received after April 16th will not be included on the bulletin.

There are two ways to make your donation:

LENT, HOLY WEEK, AND EASTER

MORE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - AGAPE MEAL!

The Love Feast, or Agape Meal, is a Christian fellowship meal recalling the meals Jesus shared with disciples during his ministry and expressing the community enjoyed by the family of Christ.

We will have our Agape meal before the Maundy Thursday service on April 17th. Lamb will be provided, but we are asking for parishioners to help provide the sides. Typical Agape sides are grapes, cheeses, nuts, dried figs and other fruits, olives, hummus, bread, and veggies. However, all food will be welcome.

Agape Recipes

Please signup on the "Time, "Time, Talent, and Treasure", and Treasure" form. Go to April 17th to signup.

Week 7: Holy Week

We invite you to join in the work of welcome as a sign of gratitude.

Another Way to Help: Crisis in Myanmar

On March 28, a powerful earthquake struck Myanmar, impacting nearly 900,000 people. With so many people affected, the damage is deep and widespread. Families are facing immense uncertainty, and many are going without food. Rise Against Hunger is working with in-country partners to provide meals and resources to those affected. Your gift today will ensure critical emergency relief is sent where it is needed most.

YOUTH CORNER

Youth Sunday 2025!

On Sunday, May 4th, Emmanuel will continue our much loved tradition of Youth Sunday; a special 9:30am service led by the Children and Youth of Emmanuel!

An email went out to kids on our registration list, but if we missed you, and your child would like to participate, please email Katie by April 13.

Inviting Youth Musicians

All youth musicians are invited to offer their gifts and talents on Youth Sunday, May 4th at the 9:30 am service. Musical pieces can be instrumental or vocal; solo or with other youth musicians; and with piano accompaniment or without — anything goes. If you're interested or have questions, please email Jae Park.

This year, we are expecting a large lineup of youth musicians and encourage everyone to come to the service early to listen to all of our wonderful musicians. Pre-service music will begin at about 9:15 am.

JUSTICE & EQUITY

During Lent, United Thank Offering hosted an online book group reading and discussing "The Ungrateful Refugee: What Immigrants Never Tell You". The discussions centered on gratitude and our expectations of gratitude from refugees/immigrants without knowing their stories or any trauma they may have experienced. Whether a refugee or an immigrant, seeking asylum in the USA requires assimilating into our culture, which means they need to learn how to belong and fit in. Belonging and fitting in are not the same thing.

We, as The Church, have a role in belonging and fitting in and that is knowing how to welcome. We are not necessarily comfortable with, or experts at, welcoming people who are trying to assimilate into our culture. To learn more, please visit the Episcopal Migration Ministries website

Below are a few links to websites and infographics to help you learn more about the immigrants coming to Saint Louis, the struggles they face, and how you can help:
