Dear MCS Families:

We’re pleased to present Michelle Vail and Chase Emery to you as candidates to serve on the Mariners Christian School Board of Trustees. We believe that Michelle and Chase will bring a wealth of experience and discernment to the Board that will help us fulfill our duties with faithfulness and excellence. However, before any candidate is approved for the Board, it’s our practice to send a notice to the MCS Community to determine if there are any opinions relative to either candidate's suitability.

LET'S BE KIND DAY IN CHAPEL!
Monday MCS celebrated “Let’s Be Kind Day” schoolwide. Wearing our special “Let’s Be Kind” t-shirts, we learned that being kind first starts in our heart, and then moves into action to meet the needs of others. We saw a video prepared by Rebekah Robeck, Costa Mesa High School student and founder of the “Let’s Be Kind” initiative.

Our TK-2nd grade students wrote Blessing Cards to our community firefighters, police officers, and medical responders. Our 3-5th graders packed a Blessing Bag with several items and a verse card that could be given by their family to someone in need. Thank you to our PTF for their help with these connections to bless our community!

MIDDLE SCHOOL LET'S BE KIND BLESSING BAGS!
TERRA NOVA TESTING!
TUESDAY, MAY 11TH AND THURSDAY, MAY 13TH!
Save the date! All middle school students will participate in Terra Nova testing on Tuesday, May 11th and Thursday, May 13th. Please avoid scheduling appointments or trips during testing if at all possible. Over the course of the two days, students will complete grade level assessments in English and Math. Testing will occur first thing in the morning, so it is important that all students arrive to school on time. Make-up testing will occur on Friday and Monday following testing.

We want all of our students to do their best on the tests and we encourage good sleep, a good breakfast, and a commitment to success!

The numbers of COVID cases in Orange County continue to decrease and we rejoice in this. Please be mindful, however, that as a school we are still following CDPH guidelines. As per the waiver each family signed when starting the school year, children should be screened each morning for symptoms and should NOT be in school if they have any of the listed symptoms, unless cleared by a doctor. We are seeing many children with coughs, cold symptoms, and sick tummies being sent to school. Please continue to abide by guidelines of keeping children home until 48 hours after symptoms have resolved. There is no way to ensure these symptoms are COVID without a test, even if they are far more likely to be a cold and even if there is no fever. If you need a copy of the symptoms checklist that should be completed each morning, click here.

We have had confirmed cases of strep throat at MCS.  Please let us know if your student does test positive for influenza or strep throat.  We will keep their identity confidential, but it is helpful to notify classes of cases.

As a reminder, children should not be in school if a family member has been tested positive or is exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, they must follow Quarantine guidelines.  Please notify the school of this so that we can ensure they are provided learning during this time.

We have not had a cohort affected by COVID-19 since February but we have had students quarantined because family members test positive in the past couple of weeks.  We would like to avoid school exposure, we thank you for continuing to follow guidelines.
