Malcolm Kitson was born on February 11, 1928 and entered Life Eternal on December 10, 2020. A memorial service for Mal will be held sometime in the Spring or Summer of 2021.
Mal Kitson was a very faithful member of the Chatham UMC since 1965. He served on every committee of the church, numerous times, always with kindness, a wink and a smile. Let us keep Mal's wife Joyce, son Tom, daughter Beverly, and their grandchildren in our prayers.
Cards of love can be sent to:

Blue Christmas~ an Online Worship Service of Comfort and Hope
A Blue Christmas Service is a time to acknowledge the feelings that surrounds Christmas for some of us, a time to remember the reason for those feelings, and a time to offer those feelings to God. This service traditionally offers a haven for people who desire a special touch from God during the holidays, and promises to be a time of quiet reflection, candle lighting, readings, music, and prayer. In this most challenging of years, we invite you to join us through a special online service of comfort and rest. Blue Christmas Service is hosted by CUMC’s Congregational Care Ministry Team.
You may view this service on YouTube using the link below.

Sunday School welcomes new friends to join our active groups during Advent. Zoom log-in info for the following online classes will be emailed at the end of each week. If you would like to be added to the distribution group or have questions about which class is right for your children, please email Karen at youthchatumc@optonline.net.
Families- This week is the Fourth Sunday of Advent. With your family, light the fourth candle of your Advent wreath. You are encouraged to follow the daily devotions in the Wonders of His Love family devotion booklet. Whether you do this first thing in the morning, before dinner or at bedtime, it will only take a few minutes but will greatly enhance your journey to Bethlehem and preparedness for the rebirth of our Savior. (Families with only high school youth, use the Incarnation devotion booklet emailed last week.)
PreK / Early Elementary - Sundays at 9:30am on Zoom. Last week we lit our Advent wreaths and we learned about John the Baptist and how he helped people get ready to follow Jesus. This week in class we’ll light the fourth candle on our Advent wreaths. Our theme: Joy – Jesus is Born and we’ll read the Christmas story from the Gospel (Good News) of Luke. When Jesus was born, people were filled with great joy because Jesus brought God’s light and joy into the world in some dark and difficult times. The Christmas story is full of joy and reasons to celebrate. We’ll talk about how we can share that joy with others.
Submerge (4th-8th grade) - Sundays at 10:30am on Zoom. This week in class we’ll light the fourth candle on the Advent wreath. Then we’ll take a deeper dive into the story of Jesus’ birth from the book of Luke. Did you know Luke spends 86 verses building up to the birth of Jesus but only a single verse on the birth itself? And then he moves right on to the angelic announcement. Why did Luke choose to focus on the parts of the story more attention on these parts of the story? Have your Bible handy.
High School Discussion: Sundays at 11:45am on Zoom. For the remaining weeks of Advent we will work through the youth version of Adam Hamilton’s book “Incarnation – Rediscovering the Significance of Christmas” and examine the question “Who is Jesus?” Messiah, Lord, Emmanuel, Prince of Peace, King of Kings, Savior... What do these names tell us about who Jesus is and how can this make a difference to our understanding of Christmas 2020? This week’s chapter is entitled: The Light of the World. Our culture celebrates Christmas as a time of bright lights and great joy. Yet (at least in the northern hemisphere) it comes at the darkest time of year. Coincidence? Or is there a deeper meaning? Where else does the Bible mention light and darkness?
