Greetings from Maine
There is a little game up here for young and old called hunting for Sea Glass, and the concept makes sense when you have a beach with rocks and tide. Bottles are broken after a picnic, and the glass is swept into the sea, with rocks acting as a tumbler until they return weeks later, smooth and beautiful for children to find. They are little jewels, a gift from the ocean. It occurs to me that faith is like that, as our lives become jagged and broken, with sharp and uneven lines that take us far from where we started. Yet if we give ourselves to God, like glass in the ocean, God will make us into something beautiful.

Happy Summer, Rich

Update from Rusty Goldsmith

The Rev. Rusty Goldsmith, our Priest Affiliate, is heading to Mobile for another Interim ministry at another St. Luke’s, a medium size parish with a large school. If their search and call of a new Rector goes according to plan, Rusty hopes to return to Birmingham and St. Luke’s, Mountain Brook, about this time next year. In the meantime he asks for our continuing prayers, and invites you to visit whenever you are in Mobile.
