Faith, Friendship, Family

A Word from The Rev. Richmond Webster

At the beginning of the year your vestry and I decided to add the presence of Mountain Brook City Police officers on Sundays, to help with traffic and security concerns, and to add a layer of comfort and safety to all our members as we gather on our large campus. As so often happens here, Saint Lukers saw an opportunity to make new friends and have some fun, embracing our officers as if they were family, offering hugs and breakfast and cups of coffee. Eventually we learned that one of our Officers, Rozetha Burrow (Recently awarded City Employee of the Year), grew up playing basketball alongside our beloved Sexton, James May. James went on to play State Championship Basketball, while Ro played for the Crimson Tide. With a little prompting from Yours Truly, we have scheduled a basketball game in our new Pavilion between these two Old Friends, as a fundraiser for our Youth Mission To Ecuador. We are calling it the “Thrilla In The Pavilla!” and it will be held on June 10, at 3:00pm.

In a time with so much bad news, I can’t think of a better witness to the power of community and faith and love then this good old fashioned play time under our new facility. We want members of all ages to join us as we cheer and laugh and deepen our bonds of friendship with each other and our Mountain Brook Police Force. I’ll see you at the game—who ya gonna root for?

Yours in Christ, Rich
