On Sundays in Maine I lead the service of Holy Eucharist at 8:00 (Morning Prayer at 10:30) and each Sunday I’m assisted by my buddy Jake. Jake’s father was a priest, and I often ask him to lead us in prayer before we begin. He usually recites his own School Prayer from 65 years ago. I’m struck by how timely these words remain today, and they sound like Saint Luke’s!
“Grant O Lord, that in all the joys of life we never forget to be kind.
Help us to be unselfish in friendship, thoughtful of those less happy than ourselves, and eager to bear the burdens of others, and especially those less fortunate than we are.
We pray these things in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.” Sweet words from a sweet man. - Rich
