Library Update
This week we officially surpassed the past 10 years of book circulation!!

This means that so far this year (before February is even over) we have read more books than previous years, this even counts before COVID and the big move! The library is so proud of the Bellaire students and staff for the amount they have read and their ability to welcome a new librarian to their campus! Ms. Carpenter cannot wait to see what our final numbers for the year will be! This is also amazing considering that the library space was not fully open until December of 2022 and a considerable amount less of books than those previous years due to the move and making room for the books that have been ordered with ESSER funds.

Speaking of ESSER Funding! Just an update on all of the books we will be getting due to federal ESSER Funds (also known as Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund). These funds were designed to provide relief for schools and school libraries for losses due to COVID-19. Many libraries lost a large portion of their collection when students left school and did not come back for a full year due to COVID-19. This federal funding was given to libraries in HISD to purchase replacements and new books for those "lost" years of purchasing and revenue. This funding has allowed Bellaire High School Library to purchase nearly 5k books. The chart in our weekly update shows that nearly 3.7k books are currently being processed and hopefully will ship soon after Spring break!

Lastly, HISD libraries are in the midst of a migration from our current Online Catalog (Destiny) to a new Online system (AccessIt). This does not necessarily impact the public, please be aware that you can still search Destiny for books in our collection, but the collection may not be as accurate as normal in regard to which books are available or unavailable due to our current switch. This should also be fully functional after Spring Break.
