Last weekends "Give My Regards to Broadway" Performed by our very talented Middle School singers, actors and dancers was such a hit! As our students got to finally perform to a live audience, the joy in this celebration could not be missed. This Showcase features numbers from Les Miserables, Hamilton, White Christmas, Frozen, Wicked, and many other popular Broadway shows. This is one showcase you don't want to miss! Grab your family and some popcorn to enjoy this performance!
NURSES CORNER!
If your child has medication stored in the health office, you should have received a notice last Friday. Please remember to pick up your child’s medication from the health office before the last day of school. Medications will not be stored over the summer. Any medication not picked up by the last day of school will be properly discarded.

If your student will need prescription medication next school year, please complete and submit the Medication Authorization Form before dropping off medication at the start of next school year. A copy of this form can be found on the main website under parent resources.

The state of California requires all incoming first graders to have a physical examination by a licensed physician 18 months before or up to 90 days after the first day of first grade. A copy of the required form for this examination went home last week in all Kindergarten Friday folders. If you need an additional copy, it can be found here.

For students entering TK,Kinder and 7th grade, immunizations must be current on the first day of school. For full details regarding this immunization requirement, please see Shots for SchoolAn updated vaccination record can be dropped off at the front desk, faxed to 714-437-7976, or mailed to the school. (Please label- Attn. Health Office.)

Have a wonderful summer!

SUMMER SLIDE BINDER K-6TH!
SUMMER SLIDE BINDER K-6TH!
This is the perfect option for students to work at their own pace and avoid the “Summer Slide”. The concepts will be a review of what was taught during the 2020-2021 year. It will also include activities that will front load students for next year.
SUMMER LITERACY!
Are you looking for ways to avoid the summer slide? There are many ways to enhance your child’s literacy this summer without ‘forcing’ the issue. The following are some of my favorite ways to keep kids reading all summer long.

First, take your reading on the road with audiobooks! I love to look at goodreads.com or the Mensa Reading List to find books that will be enjoyable for the whole family. When we go on road trips, we leave the devices at home, and instead are able to connect over audio books. Please see the attached for a (non-comprehensive) list of audiobooks that are fun for the whole family.

Next, celebrate the end of the school year with a surprise visit to a bookstore or public library. Public libraries offer contests and rewards like this one to motivate kids and adults to read throughout the summer. Free choice books also equate to engagement in reading, and celebrating the reader your child is with personal choice is a great way to get buy-in for your child’s summer reading life.

Finally, start and end each day by reading books. Before any devices are used each day, challenge your child to read for at least 20-30 minutes throughout the summer. End each day either reading aloud as a family, or by allowing your child to read independently in bed. You could even set up a special summer reading spot, like a tent or a fort, that is only available to your child in the summer.

Every year the students who consistently read over the summer continue to make the most progress in reading fluency and comprehension. Not only that, students who read books for pleasure are more likely to become avid readers who know best what reading means in their own lives. This summer, I hope your family enjoys a world of amazing literature in a whole new way.

Questions about which books might best support your child this summer? Audiobook ideas we missed? Email Kim Wilson at [email protected], or reach out to your child’s teacher.

CHAPEL RECAP!
Our last elementary chapel for the year was focused on ways of celebratory worship. Our 6th Grade Show Choir started us off with a dance to “Everything” by TobyMac, followed by our 5th Grade Worship Team leading us in singing “Raise a Hallelujah.” Mrs. Drevlow helped us remember key moments from our school year, and we prayed over the whole fifth grade class as they transition to middle school upstairs. Using Psalm 100, each grade recited a portion of that scripture to bring back the reality of God’s Word that “we are the sheep of His pasture, and the flock under His care.” Mr. Lucas and Mr. Lucas closed us out with chopsticks worship to “Good God Almighty.” Our hearts are thankful for a full year of growing together as the family of God.
4TH GRADE SACRAMENTO TRIP: REIMAGINED!
This year the 4th Grade Sacramento Trip looked a little different, but it was still lots of fun and engaging for our students! We had special speakers that really brought this experience to life. We had parents who joined in and helped and supported our students with activities and crafts. Last but not least, our amazing MCS Teachers Mrs. Sady Amend, Ms. Jennifer Kish and Mr. Soyring who did a great job in bringing Sacramento to MCS! Thank you to all who were involved and helped make this event a great one!

EVENING OF HONOR RECAP!
Evening of Honor 2021 may have taken place later in the year, but it was worth the wait!!! The 7th and 8th grade students spent the evening dancing and celebrating in the “Midnight Garden”, and created memories that will last a lifetime!

A huge thank you goes out to the dedicated committee of moms who sacrificed their time, energy, and even sleep to make this event unique and special for our students: Irene Yonkers, Ginny Gallagher, Stacey Brewster, Trisha Nabal, Jodie McCollum, Cassie Sherbanee, Dee Hill, Kate Nichols, Kim Merrell, Anna Tester, Amy Williams, Shelly Volner, Kim Bagramian, Stephanie Harrington, Beth Hopkins, Heather Hall, and Karen Carboni.

And to the middle school staff, who completed the setup, served, chaperoned, cleaned up, and even participated in the fun...you make this night happen! Thank you!

All photos from the evening have been shared with the 7th and 8th grade students on Schoology. Enjoy looking through those as you relive the evening with them! The Photo Booth photos will be added as soon as we have access to uploading them. In the meantime, here are a few to enjoy.
6TH GRADE LUAU RECAP!
The 6th grade Luau was an incredible time for our students and staff! For more of this fun time, check out our Instagram page for video footage of this relaxing and fun time!
