Texas State German Contest
28 Bellaire German students competed at the TEXAS STATE GERMAN CONTEST on Saturday (Feb 25th), at Texas State University in San Marcos, and placed in the top 5 in 27 different events. Bellaire won 3rd Place overall in Sweepstakes out of nearly 45 participating Texas-wide schools!!
1st PLACE WINNERS:
Nina Wallach, Lucy Ma, Sidney Chang, Alondra Thursland, Pranav Praveen, Isabella Gee, Weston Benner, Andrei Perepelitsa, Kihea Adams-Wilson, Gillian Donovan, Vivian Jenman, Nathaniel Allen.
The idea of a statewide German contest started over 50 years ago by a small group of German teachers. Students from each of the three regional contests (Houston, Austin and Dallas) who place in the top 5 of their events, qualify to compete at the state level. This makes the Texas system of German contests the largest in the nation and the only one of its kind. This year, 42 schools registered, and 713 students competed in 91 different events for State titles. We are #CardinalProud of the German program & Mr. Rossow!

Library Update
This week we closed out the ever important Black History Month and ushered in a new celebratory month, Women's History Month. To celebrate and continue collaborating with student groups, the library has a Women's History Month Display, Specialized bookmarks, and we just recently added predesigned buttons that students could come in and make to celebrate. This month we will be collaborating with the Feminist Club for their March meeting and we will be assisting the Robotics team with their marketing (via buttons) for their big competition on March 11th!
We have crossed over our previously held record and have over 4k books checked out so far this year. Next week will be a week that I encourage as many check outs as students can handle to get ready for spring break. There is nothing more relaxing than some down time in the sun (or a rainy day) to get some quality reading time! It is time to find your next favorite book!
Lastly, HISD libraries are in the midst of a migration from our current Online Catalog (Destiny) to a new Online system (AccessIt). This does not necessarily impact the public, please be aware that you can still search Destiny for books in our collection, but the collection may not be as accurate as normal in regards to which books are available or unavailable due to our current switch. This should also be fully functional after Spring Break.
