This Week at Memorial...
Each fall, in most churches across the country, there is some form of stewardship focus in worship services and sermons. Traditionally, it is a time when pastors are charged with asking their congregations to be generous and to reach a little higher in their giving for the upcoming year. As I said in my sermon two weeks ago, these sermons are never easy because preachers know that no one really likes to hear them preach about money.
But still we do it, because whether we like it or not, money is a big part of who we are and how we work in this world. And, money was something that Jesus talked a lot about during his earthly ministry. During our “Enough” series, we have talked about our management of personal finances, and specifically how we can find freedom and joy through living lives marked by simplicity and generosity.
As we approach the end of the series we have two special Consecration Sundays during which we ask you to return the Estimate of Giving/Pledge Card that was mailed to you a couple of weeks ago. I know that you have been praying about how you might get behind the work of Memorial in 2019, and I am so thankful for that. As we each bring our Estimate of Giving Cards this week and next, I am excited to consecrate our plans and move forward to take the next faithful step God is calling us to.
