This Week at Memorial...
On Tuesday, I presided over a charge conference for Christ United Methodist in Neptune Beach. It was a wonderful experience getting to know some of the other Methodists in our district and seeing the exciting things that they are doing as they follow the Spirit’s leadership.

Their lay leader gave a devotion before the meeting which talked about order and, even as we live our lives focused on order, how easy it is to prioritize order over the movement of the Holy Spirit. Then the congregation voted to make significant changes to their church in order to respond to where they sensed that God was leading them.

It was beautiful to watch them in the meeting struggle with the questions, “But this is the way we have worked in the past,” while then ultimately deciding that God was calling them to something new and different. When we are following the guidance of the Spirit, we will not let our hesitancy to change stop us from walking away from our old ways (even when they worked well!) and go in a new direction.

I have enjoyed this month’s study of the book of Galatians, and I hope that you have as well. This Sunday, I will be preaching on one of the most famous passages in Galatians: the Fruits of the Spirit. It is not too late to invite a friend or neighbor to come and join us for worship this week. If you do, please make sure to introduce them to one of us so that we can greet them, as well.

Blessings,
Pastor Drew

It is also a special time to remember our covenant with God, each other, and all creation. On October 7 th at 2:00PM, the Memorial family will join with the congregation at St. Peter’s Episcopal for their Blessing of the Animals service. Bring your pets to the courtyard at St. Peter’s. Participants are invited to bring donations of food or toys for the local Humane Society as we honor our pets and homeless pets in the area.
Experience Taizé Worship with Special Piano Music, Oct. 7th. Taizé Worship, inspired by the Taizé Christian community in France, is a calm, centering worship in the beautiful, historic Sanctuary at Trinity United Methodist Church. Our own Ingrida Barrow will provide special piano accompaniment at our next service. If you have been looking for a peaceful, personal way to worship and listen for God's voice, visit the next Taizé Worship on October 7th.
