Be Thankful and Thoughtful

While November engages us in traditional celebrations of Thanksgiving for a bountiful harvest and blessings of the preceding year, it is also a time to recognize diversity, service, and meaningful events that remind us to be caring, thoughtful, and thankful all year long, including:
  • National Adoption Awareness Month
  • National American Heritage Month
  • Military Family Appreciation Month
  • National Alzheimer's Month
  • November 11 - Veteran's Day
  • November 13 - World Kindness Day
  • November 17 - National Adoption Day
  • November 22 - Thanksgiving
Happy November!

Reading is Fun for Elementary Parents/Guardians Too!

One of the key components of the elementary program is parent education. In an effort to educate our parents about district programs and to provide them with tools to support their children at home, the
K-3 elementary schools provide several different programs throughout the school year:

TITLE I NIGHT
Offered three times a year per federal grant requirements, Title 1 Night is presented to parents for students who qualify for this reading program to help them meet challenging state academic standards.

FIRST GRADE LITERACY NIGHT
First grade teachers and reading specialists host this yearly session in each school to educate parents about the district's  Balanced Reading Program, including examples of actual text utilized in the classroom. Parents are provided ideas on how to support and encourage their child's reading progress at home.

KINDERGARTEN LITERACY NIGHT
Hosted by the kindergarten teachers, this session allows parents to observe and learn more about the literacy components of the kindergarten program. Teachers model literacy strategies so that parents can provide support at home.
Mu Alpha Theta Induction

Dallastown Area High School inducted 20 seniors and 74 juniors into its Mu Alpha Theta honorary mathematics society. The new inductees join 64 returning members.

Math teachers Judith Capatch and Kyle McAllister serve as faculty sponsors. Student officers include Vincent Villani, president; Ethan Lilie, vice president; Eva Wolfe, secretary; Vignya Dontu, historian; and, Michel Malda, treasurer.

The organization's mission is to inspire interest, develop strong scholarship, and promote enjoyment of mathematics for high school and two-year college students.
